I love #3 most.
Reminds me of the movie War of the World where the huge machines raise from the ground. |

I will post a shot with channel swap as requested by Pablo in another thread for comparison. With channel swap, the sky will be blue. Thanks for your compliment. |

Thanks guys for your compliments, but do give comments on what you think is not right. I would like opinions.
Silvergetz - I like #3 as well. Like you said it's like something rising from the ground. But particularly I like the 2 different tones of colours of the 2 halves of the "durian". Sinky - thanks. Sometimes sepia look give a better mood to some scenes. That's why I left them without channel swapping. Saraluna - sometimes it does not matter whether you have gone to a place to shoot before. I find that everytime I revisit a place, I get something different. Get out and shoot more! |

Hi teerex,
Thanks for channel swapping the photo for me. I think (after looking at it) that I prefer the non-swapped version. The blue cast stands out more, rather than the sepia type cast that looks ok. Cheers.

Great shots, Teerex!
Sorry ah... as my usual comments/my opinion: #1 - Very strong sepia color...looks unique and nice. #2 - Looks fine... IMO, I may want to try taking further back or show more building, using the coconut trees as framing. #3 - EXCELLENT! My favourite shot... Sharp with nice details and of course the blue. #4 - Good try on this shot... Me too, may not know how to take . IMO, I will do framing lonely on the St. Andrew building, another shot on Swissotel. Both building together may looks out-of-place. Just my thought for sharing. Cheers! |

Again, thanks Bob for your very constructive comments. I really value such comments. For #2, I was thinking of moving forward to capture more of the buildings with the 2 coconut trees on the left and right of the frame. But then at that position I could not capture the leaves of the 2 coconut trees which makes the scene uninteresting. Moving backward slightly more, I could capture some of the leaves hanging down, but without the core of the trees, does not look good too. So I just fired off at the position I thought appropriate. #4 - St. Andrews Cathedral is a nice structure to shoot, but too much obstruction to capture the whole steeple. I will go again to look around to find good position to shoot it. Unlike CHIJMES, there are no trees blocking the whole structure, but need a wide enough lens. I like #3 very much too. Did not realise that it would turn out like that after pp. Have you done any shooting recently. Will be going to AMK park west sometime this week. Saw a post by eow, looks like a nice place. |

I'm not familiar with Penang. But if you're staying in the Batu Ferringhi area, I guess the beach area would be a nice place to shoot, and don't forget at night the food stalls lining along Batu Ferringhi. Should be good for night scenes. Another place is along the sea front of Gurney Drive, lots of activities there in the evenings. There are food stalls along this place and at night, at the end of Gurney Drive the food stalls. There is a Buddhist temple at a side road behind Gurney Drive, not able to give you exact directions, but it's a tourist attraction, you should not miss it if you ask the locals while at Gurney Drive. There's also Kek Lok Si Temple in Georgetown |

Hi Teerex,
Almost missed this thread, here's my comment on composition since your technique is already quite good. 1) I think the foreground is distracting, there's no subject to focus on. Would rather crop it out since it doesn't serve a purpose. Also I think the foreground caused your camera meter to underexpose your city skyline which is your subject. 2) This one... If your subject is the skyline and you want to use first two coconut trees as a frame, I would suggest you go tighter on this one. If your subject is the coconut trees and the fishing guys, maybe a portrait is better than landscape. Feel that this image got no focus. 3) Would rather crop away or show less the tree in the foreground. But its just personal preference, not critical. 4) Ok, but would go tighter. This are my personal comment and preference lah, no offence. |
