Default Is there such a camera?

Purpose: Shoot indoor events (e.g. seminars/workshops) with incandescent lightings at hotels.

Requirements: As silent as a compact camera, low noise at ISO1600 and acceptable up to ISO3200, at least 28-120mm equiv. focal length (whether fixed or interchangeable lens) and can shoot in RAW.

Other considerations: Can attach flash unit (+diffuser +colour gel) for group photo-taking at 5-7m range.

Thanks. I have read and is a tough consideration. It is very expensive (although company sponsors) and may have difficulty focusing in low light.

    Anywhere to rent this camera?

Not sure where to rent. If you want to rent, might as well rent a proper DSLR, lens and flash.

The purpose is to be very silent. If use dslr, might as well use the existing one which my company bought.

My Nikon V1 is completely silent with electronic shutter activated and sound turned off. So mirrorless might be the way to go. Look for those with electronic shutter.

@TS, thought I'd share something I read about Panasonic's electronic shutter:

Lumix G5/G6/GH3/GX7 have E-Shutter which is silent. G5/G6 can use E-Shutter On +Beeps Off for silent operation. GH3 (after FW upgrade) and GX7 have a Silent Mode which does the same thing.

    Limitations of Lumix E-Shutter

    • Max ISO 1600 (GX7 is 3200 I believe)
    • Longest shutter speed 1 sec
    • E-Shutter scans the frame in 1/10 second. It's slow. Three consequences can flow from this :
    • 1) "leaning" and other shape distortions with moving subjects,
    • 2) banding with fluorescent and possibly other light sources, and
    • 3) No flash possible.

By the way the E-Shutter [Silent Photography] on Nikon 1 V1/V2 cameras is more versatile. It runs faster, can do flash, can use any ISO or shutter speed. Banding is possible however with some conditions of shutter speed and lighting.

    Benefits of Lumix E-Shutter

    • 1) Prevents blur due to shutter shock
    • 2) Silent
