I sent a 20D and 300D for cleaning but realised afterwards that it's not a 100% cleaning thing. There will still be dust left behind as they only do a "best effort" cleaning. I've even heard horror stories where the cam actually cam back with more dust on other parts like the focusing screen...

Now i just stick to DIY cleaning with the copperhill technique. Much cheaper and can get near 100% cleaning in a matter of minutes.

Can you share where can I learn this copperhill technique? I guess some of us are just worried about touching anything and cause permanent damage and if someone have already done that successfully 100% of the time then this gives us the confidence we can do likewise if the horror story about sending to Canon and getting a lousy job done yet having being charged for it is valid. Thanks for sharing.

Default always do this

always do a quick check after collecting your camera or lens or whatever,
if need be, try to walk around outside at harbourfront and do about 20-30shts

you can go back immediately and get it re-done

this should be second nature

After waiting for an hour and paying $20 one would expect not to have to do that. You can go back to get it re-done but are u willing to wait again?

I guess it's personal preference which method you'd prefer. Each has it's pros and cons.

Anyway, the link to the copperhill thing:

U can get the pec-pads (100 pcs) and eclipse solution at Cathay for about $15 and $18 respectively. As for the plastic swab itself, you can either DIY it or if you want the sensorswab (CP sells a box of 12 for $90), PM me and I can sell you just 1 pc at cost price.

Denosha, here's a chance to make some money. Maybe you can clean for us with all your weapons available and charge us, say $10 for each cleaning? I will be happy to be your first customer .....

Default how much does it come to per cleaning

going by that calculation it should be about $0.20 per cleaning ??
do u use more than a swab per cleaning?
if it works , then it is a bargain
provided it doesnt leave any residue

What type of sensorswabs do you have? I need a Type 2 for my 300D.

Most of the time dust that landed on the mirror can be easily blow off by a blower but not when it land on the sensor. At most I wld use those cotton buds & carefully removed them...

Hee hee.. I wouldn't call myself skilled enough to charge people doing it as a service. Besides, i can't give any guarantee nothing will go wrong lor. But so far so good Anyway, John Tan is offering to do it for free

Normally I use about 2 pec pads per cleaning. Anyway, no, there won't be any residue left behind by the eclipse solution.

Cottonbuds aren't lint free so you might end up adding fine hairs. Besides, I wouldn't touch the mirror, it seems even more delicate...

My sensorswabs are the ones for 1.6x/1.5x crop DSLRs lor.

No problem...but let's fixed a day said...next Thursday 7.30pm? Just to let u guys know that I used very fine brush(cost only less than $10) which work like sensor brush (which cost US$15 + shipping fee). I manage to help a few friends to clean their sensor already...

Is that the same brush from the Copperhill site? I am quite keen to know how it performs as the other option from visible dust is far too expensive
