Default New Leica T mount for new Leica T camera

    The price is very high.

A new lens mount means consumers spend money buying new lenses. That is the fundamental idea.

    It is revenue.

When too many Leica R and M owners hang on to their legacy lenses, the income stream into Leica stops.

Well, the Leica T mount lenses are autofocus. All are made in Japan. (because Germany is way behind Japan in autofocus electronics & manufacture of AF lenses)

Looks like Leica believes in APS C rather than MFT. A better sensor size in the long run.

It may cannibalise the Leica M market. There is an adapter to use M lenses.
This may be a boon for Leica or conversely a "T" for Terrible mistake. See how the market responds.

Everything Leica is priced in a position which they won't end up being terrible mistakes.

Read somewhere that NONE of the lenses to be made for Leica T will have optical image stabiliser.

According to CNet Lori Grunin senior editor:

    http://www.cnet.com/products/leica-t/

The zoom doesn't even have optical image stabilization - Leica says it imposes too large a compromise on the optical design - which means the T is about the only system on the market with no image stabilization at all.
The camera offers only electronic image stabilization, which isn't as effective as optical or sensor shift, and more prone to image artifacts.
The Leica T does not have IBIS sensor shift image stabiliser. Like as in the Olympus OM-D E-M1.

But (software) electronic image stabilization is not ideal. It has no place in a Leica T camera + lens set that costs more than SGD$5,000.

I can accept (software) electronic image stabilization in my ultra cheapskate Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W510 that costs SGD$130 new (from Amazon) and SGD$35 second hand (from Amazon). Actually it is so obsolete that in reality it has near-zero second hand value.

Someone commented that his APS-C sensor 16 Megapixel Fuji X-A1 + 16mm-50mm OIS lens (USD$450 with free shipping i.e. SGD565.83) is as good or better.

    http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-X-A1-.../dp/B00EYTM3FS

    SGD$4950 SGD 565.83

The Fuji X-A1 is 8.75 times cheaper.

Expressed another way, it is 11% of the price of the Leica T.

Overpriced nonsense. It looks like a 3 year old point and shoot. Then again, it's not a camera designed for photographers is it

Leica T: A Stunning Work Of Aluminum Art. Ergonomics doesn't really seems user friendly, definitely not suitable for those with hyperhidrosis or sweaty palms.

Shenzen QC standards has improved drastically over the years, not necessary to pay master craftsman so much just to affix the logo and other monotonous manual labour. Sweatshop child labour over there will gladly do just that at a fraction of the cost and consumers whom are none the wiser will still throw loads of money just for the exclusivity provided by a well recognised luxury brand.

Many comments on Internet that when wet, this will be slippery. You cannot grip properly. May drop it on floor.

Much fanfare has been made over the 45 minutes it took a craftsman to polish the machine milled block of solid aluminium. But that is for metal-working fans or sculptor wannabees to admire. Most camera users do not care.

Mind you the craftsman was just polishing. He did not mill the aluminium block by hand. That was still done by machines.

If some one printed a picture out from a Canon/Epson/HP printer and then added 10 brush strokes by hand to the picture. Some members of the public may mistakenly admire this as a work of "art" by a craftsman. The clever part is that the public is allowed jump to their own wrong conclusion.

    CNet Lori Grunin senior editor:
I do wish to thank them publicly for not making me sit through the 45-minute video of a craftsman's hands polishing the freshly milled block of aluminum (though if you want to test your mettle, you can probably watch it).

Actually . Honestly this is marketing nowadays. Apple also made a huge fuss of all the milling , craftsmanship but still ? Drop an iPhone and your heart shatters

No focus peaking on the camera? That is a big fail.

Those who have the money will get it because they like it and / or they can afford it. It's the prerogative of Luxury items to ignore customer convenience and other compromises.
Comparing this cam with consumer gear is the same as judging a Lambo's capabilities for the family trip or the advantages of a $20k watch telling you the same time as a $50 model: pointless. Luxury is luxury and cannot be judged by reason or some Value for Money comparison.
But some need the excitement to post in length

This is the raison d'tre for Leica

IMO Leica produces some of the ugliest cameras I ever set my eyes on. Go to those used cameras shops in town & one will see all the graveyards of old ugly Leica cameras! But to be honest, this latest camera looks really classy, like some work of art to look at, but never to use. It is not meant for photographers but some futuristic museum.

True. But if one pays $1 million for a Lambo & it runs slower than a Toyota, wont it be a laughing stock?

Or a $50K watch is much less accurate (not matter of speed) & reliable in telling the time than a $20 Casio?
