Anyone that’s ever been to one of my smaller workshops or editing photos next to me knows that, while I do most of my work in Lightroom, I usually look at my photos in Photo Mechanic first. Why? Mainly because Photo Mechanic is lightning fast at showing you your thumbnails and even higher quality photos than Lightroom. Now, I don’t do this all the time. When I have a few extra minutes, it’s actually much easier to import in to Lightroom and choose the Standard Previews option. As long as I give it a few minutes before looking through my photos, I can browse through them pretty quickly without having to wait for thumbnails or previews to be created. And since I’m doing the bulk of my work in Lightroom I’d much rather do it this way. But if I’m in a rush, and I need to see my photos and go through them to pick my favorites immediately, I ain’t gonna lie – there’s nothing as fast as Photo Mechanic for me…until now that is.
onOne Software just released a cool video over on their Labs website. It demo’s a feature that they’re working on which is basically super fast browsing. At that point, you can choose your keepers and then pull them in to Lightroom so you can get to work. It’s a quick 60 second video. Here’s the link if you want to take a look.
Hope you have a great Easter weekend!
