Ideally a "ask not what your country can do for you, but ask yourself what you can do for your country" type of Singaporeans would work until he is 80 and die without withdrawing his CPF thereby leaving it to Singapore Wealth Fund for future generations to enjoy.

Are there such creatures around ???

I find that many of the new generation love to earn their pile of $$$ fast & retire early. This is like some kind of American dream for high achievers. I gathered this from some university students & graduates I spoken to. Maybe its just an ideal. Maybe the many insurance agents around have done their job to convince them to prepare for the future If one has the money to afford early retirement why not??? Retirement does not mean one has nothing to do...

Key word is 'prefer' and my guts tell me the reasons are that many are constantly burnt out and not enjoying their jobs. If converse is true , honestly who wouldn't want to work till 70?

It is not easy to find a job when you are over 50, so some choose to retire not by choice but due to circumstances.

Is it true that deferring retiring age to 65 is good for the economy? Or it is just the structure of the society and how we deal with wealth distribution that make retirement not possible?

How many colleagues you come across in your organization that you think should retire, whether due to their health or ability to contribute but struggle on as they need the $ ? That is no more 'prefer' but survival !

For the handful that can jolly well afford but stayed on to enjoy a more relax environment, won't it be better they retire? Of course there will be those that are passionate and continue to contribute given their vast experiences. Do stay haha

Applying Marslow's hierarchy of needs motivational theory, if you have
    1) food on the table (Physiological needs)
    2) roof over your head fully paid for (Safety needs)
    3) member of clubsnap with lifetime membership, no suspension, no infraction, etc (Social needs)

And if you are contended with present status quo, I suppose there is no need to aim further to attain Esteem needs or Self Actualisation needs, be it a bigger house, or a person of high repute or high achiever.
To conclude, those Singaporean who prefer to retire by 55, are saying I happy with 1,2,3. The problem is that each of them have different interpretation of hawker food or michelin star restaurant, HDB flat or District 11 accommodation, same camera or annually upgrade new camera.

    my 2 cents opinion
    cheers.
