Default Japan raises sales tax from 5% to 8%.

Japan raises the sales tax for the first time in 17 years.

Could it be an April Fool joke? or else the have to BBB before the new price hit Singapore's shore.

For tax-free purchases, shouldn't affect visitors, other than that, prices might be more expensive.

Abe is confident enough to impose this tax. He dares to. Not afraid that his party will not get elected again. Wait and see later how Japanese react.

Abe can press the Diaoyutai aka Senkaku button whenever he needs some nationalism to boost his party poll ratings.

He took a lesson from Singapore. We had COE for so long. And so far no one has voted out the incumbent party.

From what I gather from http://www.price.com.hk HK prices for new bodies and lenses about the same as SG without GST.
