Earth Hour is like a couple turning off the lights when they go to bed.

They do it for themselves rather than saving the earth.

After giving it a thought, I think it's difficult to quantify.

Well, it seems pointless. You go dark for like 15 mins or so? But spend extra few hundreds of KWH to light up the facility for Andrew Garfield and such during earth hour campaign?

But, can we really measure the awareness it caused by the campaign itself?

No one can really come up with the figure how many KWH saved because few hundreds of Spiderman fans become aware of this and starts to change their lifestyle.

Well, you said that on the assumption that it will make a difference?

    My point being, it doesn't.

No. What I am trying to say that it is difficult to tell whether there is a difference or not.

    Okay, I agree.
Here's something that shows the rise of energy consumption.

Earth Hour Awareness starts somewhere 2004-2007, yet the graph is as steep as ever.

Kit is absolutely right. When humans initiate useless feel good activities it reduces their guilty feelings and delay or eliminate really effective actions. The only good about this is that since we are going to be hit by climate change anyway, might as well get some fame, publicity or benefit out of it.

I hate to say this but if people are wearing thick jackets to parliament, then we need not look into switching off lights. Start with from the top and then walk the talk. Do a survey on our minister's office to see what is their temp setting. 25 C would be fine but I am sure most are at 22 C.

Just like the mintr pay. Always going up, except for a "pay cut hour". Then after that hour, would start to climb again. Ha ha ha. (Notice no more LOL LLL?)

Just because someone needs to keep his brain at an optimum temp of 19C

Why can't we work under coconut trees and enjoy free air and free breeze?

I'm sure we can come up with something to catch the coconuts from falling down to our heads.

You have to let the coconut fell on the head first, then something will come up.

Imagine, small apple can make Newton come up with his law. What would happen if it's coconut.

When you have a bunch of coconut trees swaying with the wind, nothing productive will emerge although they survive.
