    2. ensure that his replacement photog contacts the wedding couple to finalise the logistics of the AD wedding shoot. and remain contactable at all times.
    3. contact the wedding couple 1st thing on the wedding day itself to make sure everything was ok and that the replacement photog actually shows up.
    4. accept at least part of the blame when the replacement photog fails to turn up. as well as apologising to the wedding couple for the screw-up.
I guess in this particular case, the reason for the replacement was bec of the bride's change of wedding date, and not the fault of the original photog. Logically, there wld then be no contract bet KH and Kat, and he shld be free of any obligations.. unless he was the one tt had something on and initiated the replacement photog, then it wld b more reasonable tt he be expected to ensure that things turn out well...

Default Sympathies. Care required in an unregulated market.

    Hi Katherine,

    Congratulations on your wedding.

I'm sorry to hear about your soured wedding day. I understand how distressing it is on a day so important. However, I like, and agree with, the optimism a few ClubSnap members here have voiced. Think of it this way, it could have been worse with nobody coming with cameras to help you.

It would be fair to hear from the side of the photographer. Maybe he met an accident, or due to his troubled past, had to be hauled into court or locked up.

I feel that it's most fair that both the couple and the photographer have to take responsibility. It seems, but I won't say it's surely, that your main photographer may have failed you in this aspect.

Here's a fact that few would honestly speak/admit.

In Singapore, many wedding (and event) photographers are hobbyists who progressed in skill and realised the potential of earning income with their cameras, hence many became freelance photographers. Freelance (usually or quite correctly) means that they don't do photography as a full-time profession, more like a second job. This market of freelancers has been growing even before the digital boom, and I noticed it -- the piece of the wedding pie was getting smaller. Now with digital cameras getting popular and more affordable, the growth in freelancers has shot up faster than a fighter jet. The piece of the wedding pie has gotten so small that it's really difficult to sustain a living, except for the very skilled and pricey cameramen (but I'm sure that even they face strong competition from freelancers often undercutting the market with low fees to suit mostly-budget-tight S'poreans). It's an unregulated market with no authoritative body governing the freelance trade and setting standards.

actually it would appear that there is a contract between KH and Kat since a deposit has been paid. It is not apparent that there is a contract between Kat and RW. strictly speaking, KH would have to return the deposit to Kat, and Kat pay RW a new deposit to effect the change in contractual arrangements. however from Kat's post, she has not even met or spoken to RW, neither has RW ever contacted her.

Default Hear all sides of the story

    Hi Katherine and all,

It appears that the first photographer has expressed his side of the story. If he's really overseas, then maybe it's not too much of his fault.

The replacement should rightfully provide his side and explain his absence.

This whole situation just looks bad. I'm sure there are many honourable and honest photographers out there who wish they won't be affected by this.

Just a question, were you personally able to contact (and converse with) Roy Wong before your wedding? Since you have his HP number, you should be able to. This information is very important.

    Ladies & Gentlemen,

The thread has fulfilled it's purposes and now that the actual photographer has showed up, i suggest that both Kath & Chris take their dispute offline or in PM. For everyone else who think they have an axe to grind with anyone else, pls do so via PM.

    The thread is hereby closed.

    Thank you.
