It's cool to see that the Olydak is finally official and that there's even a prototype camera available. It's kinda disappointing, though, that it's still a work in progress. Was hoping that they'd announce the immediate availability of their camera body and lens system, but I suppose this is better than nothing.

i'm a tad disappointed this is all they have to show for so far.

but somewhat relieved to know that i don't have to fork out cash so soon on the new system.

still happy with my e-10.

I personally don't mind the fact that they don't have production cameras to show yet... It would have been nice if they could have readied the system for launch by Photokina, but that would have been an artificial deadline. For such a major initiative (will it work though? only time will tell!), it's important for them to get all the design details right first before even starting working on actual products.

I, for one, very much like the idea of an 'open standard' lens mount; will the era of competing proprietary lens mount systems come to an end? What does surprise me, though, is that their proposed camera body and lens mount don't seem to be any significantly smaller than those of existing SLR systems (at least if the photos on DPReview are representative of the actual system). I thought the cost savings from making physically smaller lenses with long 35mm-equivalent focal lengths was supposed to be one of the major selling points of the Olydak (or "Four-thirds") system.

An interesting initiative - hope it succeeds.

Only things is the oft-mentioned size reduction of the lenses for the 4/3 system does not seem evident in the pre-pre-prototype (of course, this is just an early sample, and the lens shown could be a 24-400mm f/2.0 prototype )

Oly may have to introduce their own line of interchangeable SLR lenses to support this new camera. Exciting.......

24-400? LOL and kill the golden goose all at once? think it will just be a parallel of 35mm prices (looking at TC B300 and E10/20s), but will "sell" the lightweightness..

hmmm depends on how the AF and ruggedness performs vs the estab'd 35mms...

usually SLRs dun have addon lenses like TC and WCs.. cos the reason oly has them is for the IS-x00 series... dun think such will be in the official upgrade path... rather buy a 300mm then get a 1.5 TC for 200?? not sure lah about mentality, but generally it's like that... not talking about rear TCs though...

of course if the thread matches u can attach anything u like..

Just want to find out, how much should the E10 cost, brand-new now? What cons are there besides the lens being non-interchangeable?

Don't think you can get a new E10 off the shelves anymore. Its been succeeded by the E20.
