Default Which one to choose, GX7 or EM5?

Hi all gurus out there, I am considering of getting a MFT. Wasn't much into photography because of the bulky sizes of DSLR. Now with the MFT, I am thinking of picking up. Read a lot of reviews between Panasonic and Olympus and I narrowed down my options to these 2 models partly because of the smaller build and the looks. So which model would the pros recommend to a beginner? I don't really have much preference.

If you must get a m43 and not consider any other CSCs, then I would recommend the gx7. Less rugged than the em5, but probably better in most other aspect. But em5 can be bought at quite a steal now, given that it has been replaced by the em1.

Both are good cameras, you won't go wrong with any one of them. The thing is... you should get your hand on both camera and see which one feels better. I personally had the EM5, great image quality, pretty light weight (as compared to my Canon 7D), and small lenses (I carried all three lenses that I have on a tour in Japan, without feeling much of a weigh on my shoulder).

I have not used the Panasonic m4/3 before, but from reviews, it seemed pretty good. So the thing is come back to, which one you feel better.
I am not a photographer, just someone who happened to have a couple of cameras.

I agree, EM-5 is at a steal now, given that now there are the newer em-10 and em-1. The GX7 is quite a new release, so you will likely pay a premium. They are both very good cameras, just try them out and decide which one feels better on your hand.

They're very similar, go with whichever you like better, you can make wonderful images with either.

If you know what features are important to you, then check out these interesting series of comparisons from someone who owned both:

    tl:dr:

If you need the sealing, frame rate, or IBIS in video, then the EM5 is the better machine.
    If not, then GX7

Thank you everyone for the helpful feedback. It's really hard to decide between the 2. Lumix is sleek and sexy but EM5 is rugged and pro looking. Yup I saw a few bros selling their EM5 on the forum at quite attractive prices, yet to see a GX7 on sale though. Correct me if I am wrong, these 2 cameras can use each others lens interchangeably without problems rite? Is it worth waiting for the IT show because I just missed the recent one.

    1) Yes, both camera can inter change lenses... meaning, Olympus EM5 can use Panasonic m4/3 lenses and Panasonic GX7 can use Olympus m4/3 lenses.

    2) Forget about pro-looking... forget about ruggedness, forget about sleekness and sexiness. Those are the least you should look into. Look instead of the handling of the camera... which camera do you like ergonomically... which one's user menus made the most sense to you, which one's button and dials placement do you like best... etc etc.

    3) We have a dedicated thread in the stickies that actually explained in detail whether it is worth waiting for the IT show. In short... if you find the camera you like now... just get it now and start enjoying the camera. I would not go as far as saying that IT show is a waste of time, because sometime you do get very good freebies (like a dry cabinet) but most of the time, you just get freebies that you will not use at all... and street pricing is still cheaper than SRP (and yes, most of the time, the camera sold in IT show are sold at SRP price).

So the main thing here is... go down to the shop, pick up that two cameras and have a feel of them. Then decide which one is for you.

Thanks for the tip, i will make a trip to the shop and play with the 2. Hopefully I can decide a winner.
