    Default Xi'an/Chengdu

Hi members.. appreciate some feedback from members who have been to either Xian or Chengdu.
Will be attending a wedding in Xian in late April. Besides the usual touristy sites like terracotta warriors etc, has anyone done or gone to any sight seeing tours in Xian?
A friend suggested that from Xian I should travel to Chengdu for her picturesque scenery. Again, any recommendations as to what to visit ect is highly appreciated.
As I am a 1st timer to China, any tips and recommendations are highly appreciated. Of course, I am a keen photographer and would love to snap pictures if the opportunity arises.

Thank you all in advance for taking your time in responding.

    Paul

The 2 links give a lot of info on Xian and Chengdu. Include pamphlets you can make use of.
Also the local Chinese love of writing... they give very detailed travelogues

    Be careful of scams though...

Get use to the haze, air quality is really bad in China.

I feel where you are able to go and how much you are able to see would depend very much on the amount of time you have for your break. Do be aware that Qing Ming is a public holiday - you mentioned you will be in Xi'an for a wedding in April - and the crowds can be horrendous.

If time is limited, I think Xi'an itself makes a good holiday. Since this is your first trip to China, you might wish to take it slow, and take in the sights, sounds and smells. You can even consider going up Hua Shan, which is near Xi'an. It can be quite a climb though.

    hi number2..

I just realised that end April/early May is China's Golden week!
    And everywhere will be packed!!
I tried to get a flight from Xian to Hong Kong, no flights available fm 25April till 15May!!
    Crazy...
So now it looks like I may just settle for Xian.
Chegdu/Beijing may be unpleasant due to the human tidal wave!!

Appreciate your reply to the thread.

Stay put in Xian at one hotel and avoid relocating. You look thru the link I gave you, actually there're many interesting places you can visit.

One discovered not so long ago is burial ground belong to Han JinDi (Father of Han Wudi)Hanyang Ling 汉阳陵:

On a weekend Visit XingQing Gong Park 兴庆宫公园 and watch the local social activities

Take a bullet ride from 西安北站 to 洛阳龙门高铁站 to do a day or overnight trip to 洛阳龙门石窟(Longmen grotto) 80min and SGD35 one way 2nd class. At arr bullet stn there's a bus that will drop you off at the "grotto" Arr early to avoid the crowd.

Keep an eye on bus time-table. (Some routes including those in the city ceased running early!) Fun to take bus in China dirt cheap.

Many local sights are found in the link I attach to this post earlier
Don't bother to visit outlying sights (emperor's cemeteries etc) unless you have someone to drive there.
