Default Another shot of the merlion

its been a long time since i posted something on clubsnap. just came back from perth just a few days back and i really like the new merlion !! here's a shot i took with my 2800Z.

Pardon me, but the merlion's "bottom" looks a tad overexposed....

Maybe you should have a faster shutter speed perhaps?

spumpkin > nice water flow there..
just to ask, did you use a ND filter or something?
I thought such water effects can be produced only with a ND filter?

nope not true, all u really need is a steady tripod, small aperture setting and long exposure time for night-time shots.... anything above 1 second will give that smooth frothy effect. ND filters are more for daylight scenes when even the smallest aperture is still too fast.

yes and no, depending on the situation... bear in mind that a polariser does more than just filter light (unlike ND which is built specifically to block off some light and nothing else). a polariser also deals with refracted light and colour saturation...

e.g. if you are taking a long exposure shot of a waterfall surrounded by green foliage, then a polariser is good cos it saturates the green of the foliage. but if you don't want the saturation effect, then a ND is more useful.
