#4 really good would prefer a tighter crop for #3 consider chopping off the right portion to make a square frame

First 2 are nice. The fly's head looks metallic!

Thanks eikin and reno77 for your comments

Hi eikin, #4 would be my fav if not for the poor DOF. In fact, all my shots suffers from poor DOF Really tempting to get a DSLR. . I will try recomposing #3 to see if it look nicer. Thanks for the tips

your camera's doing the job very well already mah, DSLR still need to get the right lens, lots of $$$ but frankly have to agree the quality difference is too great between a DSLR and prosumer

not really, i think that your camera has got great DOF
my shots only have 1 or 2mm of DOF the most.

I like #4 as well

Thanks ortega. Glad you like it

All my shots are taken at F11 which is my max I would love to shot at F16 or more if the lighting permits which is why I'm tempted to get a DSLR.

Cheers

don't get tempted. i reversed 2 50mm lens and imo is not easy. with my lousy skill in this reverse macro thingy, lots of trials and patience are needed. I reversed on a cp5400, much easier to get results.

Your shot is superb
other than the Aperture issue,
i think you can stick to your prosumer cam,
as most of your picture is very outstanding,

Regarding the reverse lense, the main concern is the vignetting,
i have a 70-300 main lense and reversed a 50mm /f1.8.
Hence to get rid the vignetting in "uncropped" size...

i got to focus on 300mm then the vignetting will not occure,
but another problem is... enough a VERY VERY little movement will cause the image blur...

the workign distance just 2-3cm... the DoF just 1-2mm....

it's hard.... but according to your previouse experience, i think
it should not eb a problem for you

So, get a DSLR if you think you need it

Nice series Melvyn! Personal fav is #4....its as if its looking at you

For #3 and #5 I think the flash is kind of harsh at the background...the colour is jumping out....but on the fly it does not seems so!

Anyway, on the issue of DSLR, I have been toying the idea once in a while too.....but cost is one issue I am holding back, and the other is the experience I gather from my Minolta SLR days, had to change lens for different zooms, heavy etc...especially with children in tow, difficult to chage lens.....where as now I have x12 = 35-430mm optical zoom all in one package....which is convenient.

Anyway, my Max A is F8 apeture, so its quite limited in that sense too! And for noise, I keep it low at ISO 50 while DSLR can go higher.....well, like you said, beggers can't be choosers.....just have to make do with what we have, and frankly.....I think you have mastered the use of your set up as your shots are ALWAYS facinating!

Thanks tchuanye!! Actually, it's my recent trip to Ireland that make me realise the limitation of my cam and I'm really tempted to get this lens MP-E 65mm 1 to 5 times magnification!! Yeah

Cheers
