i'm posting on behalf of detrop. he arrived in boston this morning, and they gave him a very thorough security check...
so this officer had to dig out detrop's poor little d70 and molested it, kinda. he kept slottin it different cards that detrop owns to check pictures in it. i don't know about the gory details of the check, but the camera passed out during the check. so detrop thought that it was just battery problem... he went to charge it in the hotel, and turned out that it isn't a battery problem he sent me an sms about the problem... here goes...: "problem: cf card lamp blinking, can't use camera at all, control panel lcd displaying no number, buttons doesn't seem to be working, thus making the menus inaccessible" anyone knows what's the problem exactly? any ways to solve it? he's in a nice, quiet little town with plenty of things to photograph, yet his camera won't work... so he's dead bored there SOS! |

Sorry to hear that.. being away so far (w or wo objective) with the work horse die on yo is pretty much a terrible thing..
But take this as a learning. bring a second body or at least digi cam. You never know what's gonna happen. 2 cents.. |

Or we could coin it the "Green Lantern".
My D70 had an "Err" message the other day, everything was jammed, nothing goes. Swithching on and off and taking the CF card does not help. After a while, pressing the shutter button kinda let off a fast fps-like sound, and it just came back to normal. ![]() |

Don't the customs have a regulations that they should not spoil any equipment? If they want to view the CF card, they should have their own equipment in doing it, and not use other people's cameras. Is this in sg or outside ?

It was not spoilt by the customs anyway. The other day before i have an event, i was just recharging my battery and testing some shots, the problem occur also. Heard from Nikon that they have no parts, waiting for parts....

yeah after i read the linked thread, it's not the customs...
but... tempus>it's an airport in boston. they were quite invasive... plus, because detrop's also an indonesian, they're more cautious. they checked his e-mails, websites, all photos in his camera-phone, every single cf cards he had was checked as well... |

event if its not customs, can still blame it on customs. but being in boston, i am sure they cater for such complaints. invasion of privacy is one thing, but in the process causing failure of equipment is another. since they are the last person to touch it , they should be responsible in handling delicate equipment that doesn't belong to them in checking such things. as such they should use their own equipment to view any memory cards.

Any checks we can do with Nikon about this before the problem occurs? I'm planning a trip soon and the last thing I want is for the camera to fail.

It is not always advisable to make a hoo-haa in a foreign country. Not everywhere is as accomodating. Besides, national security can be used to overide personal privacy. |
