Hello to all...
I'm feeling the itch to get the 20d for a walkaround camera after the HUGE drop in price here within the usa. Though BHphoto and the big guys are offering it for around 1200usd (after rebate), the street price from the smaller shops = around 1000USD or 900 if you're lucky. Oh yeah.. these are the asking prices for new bodies alone. Just wondering, if it's cheaper to buy it here, or asking my son to get it for me back in singapore from CP or TCW, etc etc... Thanks in advance for the input guys. |

It's definitely cheaper to get it there. In fact, if you are coming back for holiday, a lot of CSer would appreciate it if you are able to buy on their behalf

Canon seems to like dropping price bombs too, giving away rebates and having new lower prices on its equipment every 3 - 6 months. The digital Rebel XT (350D) should be going for roughly 600 $usd or so, and i think 700$ with the kit lens the last time i checked with my local neighborhood canon dealer. anyways.. i'll keep you guys posted when i'm coming back home to singapore... should be able to bring back a few bodies. I'll be checking the shop out tmrw, heard it's possible to knock down the price to 850 $usd or so... hmmm Last edited by F5user; 19th June 2005 at 01:54 PM. |

I was at Canon's Funan showroom the other day and query one of the staff there on why Canon products are more expensive here than in US. She is aware about the big diff in prices but can't explain why it is cheaper in US.

Yup... just got off the phone with my local canon dealer...
the 20d's going for a confirmed 830$USD NIB BUUUTTT with USA warrenty... i don't know if it carries over to singapore but oh well, for that price, (around 1450sing) i'm not gonna complain much. what's more, managed to bargain for a grip and 50 1.8 MKII for extra 120 usd$... apparantly some funny canon bundle for father's day or something.. going to hop on down tomorrow to grab the bundle. ![]() |

Oh my god! 20D is only US$850. It doesn't matter whether there is warranty or not given such a low price. Since you are in US, the US warranty is more appropriate for you. Singapore is still selling at $2,600++. You are damn lucky that you are in States. No wonder people always say that the grass is always greener outside Singapore. ![]() |

Where are you buying this from? Can you provide the name of the shop and phone number? I would like to buy one as my daughter is currently in the US.
Thanks |

It's CameraInc, Berkeley. Currently located 3 blocks off telegraph ave near UC berkeley's Campus (west entrance).
Your daughter studying in the west coast? if not, PM me, and i'll see what i can do to "chope" this deal for u as i think it's an in store pick up only (for the grip + 50 1.8 bundle) and for some father's day thing. Thanks. Last edited by F5user; 19th June 2005 at 04:15 PM. |

The closest date is perhaps in Dec this year, when my eldest son comes home for his sabbatical. Nonetheless, i'll keep fellow CSers posted on this deal k? ![]() |

Perhaps Canon (singapore)'s maintaining their prices as the demand for its Dslrs is still as high even though their prices are crazy when compared to other countries? Nonetheless, i'm seriously quite disappointed with the pricing back home (singapore) after knowing this, as i've always considered s'pore as the hub for cheap camera equipment. ![]() |

Hearing these prices make me drool... Even at 1k, I would consider it "dirt" cheap. Even the 2nd hand 20Ds are selling for 2.2k and above. For 850, it's seriously tempting... too bad I am not over there if not, I don't think I will be able to resist.

Thanks for the info. My daughter is in NJ and too far to ship. However, my brother is living about an hour from SF and I may ask him to get it for me. Is the shop call Peterson's Elmwood Camera Shop at 2999 College?
For those who are in Singapore, I just saw a seller "camera4u" on Amazon.com listing the 20D for $800USD! They may ship to Singapore. Best regards to all! |

NOTICE TO ALL.... sadly.. the body's out of stock for the moment due to the father's day rush... i managed to get the camera, but the stupid 8.25 tax was crazy... I asked the shop owner, he said he posted his 20ds at this price to clear the stock of "outdated dslr bodies." (I hate canon because of this) Though it made me feel bad as the 20d's still relatively "new" to me, i'm still happy with it. Anyway, Thanks to all for the input on the street price for the 20d. To those wanting to get the 20d here in the USA, check online prices... as said, there's tons of other reputable stores out there that offer prices lower than BHphoto or adorama... WIll keep everyone posted on the stock. =) |
