Do you think the second one is any good?

Not that I want to know how it feels like.
Hopefully the second aircraft carrier will save us from this experience.

The 2nd one may be no good. But at least they are building the carriers. It is a learning process. PRC has to start somewhere.
PRC is 80 years behind time. In the 1930s Japan already made carriers (which were advanced for their time) already.

No other country will sell to PRC their advanced, latest, most potent carriers. Only sell to PRC the useless obsolete ones.

The 2nd one will be way behind the latest US aircraft carriers in capability. But at least it is a start to make their own.

First of all, PRC has to acknowledge its weakness in naval power. China's navy has been weak for hundreds of years since the fall of the Ming dynasty.

TV documentaries still boast that the wooden junk flag ship of Admiral Cheng Ho was so much bigger than the Santa Maria, Nina & Pinta that Columbus used to discover America.

The days of Admiral Cheng Ho in Ming Dynasty are over.

PRC are catching up very fast... plus they have money. ... more money to invest in all these now..... so there's a steep learning curve and once they reach there.... it is gonna be a problem.

No problem for me. Singapore can become part of China, at least I will not be needing the Jade Rabbit.

But in future things may change. Now people talk about carrier killers.

Before WW2, battle ships were supposed to be king of the seas. But in WW2, many battle ships were sunk by air planes from carriers.

So the same may happen to carriers. Some new technology or invention may render them expensive useless hulks that are easily destroyed. e.g. by land based missiles in a country with long sea coast.

That was exactly what happened to the Yamato battleship in WW2. It became a coffin for more than 3,000 sailors on board.

Actually, the Earth will be in need of a conventional war to reduce the population, as it is simply over crowded.....
