Default Off camera flash for Pentax Q

So based on the following threads.

    http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3156784

Has anyone sucessfully used an off camera flash with the Q? Do you think the AOKATECH AK-TTL worth it? I want to learn how to do potrait with an off camera flash outdoors. Something like this.

For the strobist here is there really a need to go so high a sync speed? If optical trigger is the flash on the Q strong enough to trigger the of cam flash?

I want to try shooting at teh roof of the Marina Barrage.

Thank you in advance and apologies if this has been brought up before.

    HI TS

would recommend you to start off with the typical manual strobing technique using manual radio trigger. you learn more that way.

using pttl/ittl/ettl etc etc will just ensure you get " proper exposure " , there are others things like light modifier, power, distances blah blah that will affect your final results.

    strobing tips on q.

There is little weird quirks where you have to use M mode and turn off the flash to allow radio trigger to works. i cant remember the details but you need to tweak it alittle.

Q is capable to sync up to 1/250 (i tried it b4) so its alittle better then pentax dslr, But you cant go more then f8 in any of the q lens and you will notice diffraction will kick (image becomes "softer" as less sharp).

These are the results of using Q and some manual triggers

I think Q is capable of 1/1000 with its built in flash.
So it might be possible to fire off a flash like YN560II on S2 (or was it S1) or any optical trigger than can ignore the PTTL preflash.

    edit:
    confirmed.
    1/1000 is possible.
Native lens on lens shutter (not electronic shutter)
    YN560ii on S2

    Q is qool

what would be good starting/learning kit be? 1 flash, 1 stand and one set of triggers should be more than enough yes? But any particular brand to look out for or avoid?

    Thank you.

IMO. Start with 2 light. 2 stand. Don't buy any light modifier yet. Place 2 light 45 deg left n right at a subject/model. Observed the light pattern and shape. As u zoom in your flash head or increase decreased your light power. Have fun on your strobing journey.
