Default Any comments on NIKON S1?

Anybody can comment on this camera? Heard that the S2 just launch also, the only difference I see that it has a slider to cover the lens, besides that anyone else know the diff? thanks.

S1 really feels cheap and plasticky to me. Save the money and buy a Sony instead.

Tried it out but didn't like it. Speed wise, it is ok, but the LCD, even though it is large, is kinda low res and low light performance isn't good, find it slow when taking pictures in low light situation. Maybe because of focus hunting and slow flash recharging.

Suggest you also take a look at the Minolta X60 and Casio Exilim series too to compare what you really like.

Interesting how Nikon chose to revive the S-range, well, the S2 and possibly S3 that is. These old rangefinders are very sought after now. Here's an extremely rare black S2...

I used to own about 4 sony cam b4..one thing i dislike is the expensive MS and the short battery life.

Compact camera = smaller capacity battery. Its the same for all compact cameras

MS got 3rd party one. Price is higher than CFs though

After doing some research on the internet, I think I'm going to settle for the Canon Ixus 50. The Ixus 700 (dont remember exact model name now) has higher reso but is bulkier and I dont like the shape. I also played with an Ixus 40 and i like the compact size and pics turn out pretty good. I think a 5 megapixel reso is more than enough for printing up to A4 size photos.

Any other model people think I should consider? Casio has a super slim series but I am not familiar with the picture quality of Casios. The Sony t7 does not seem to be particular good, just that ist super slim. I hate Sony's in any case because their proprietary memory sticks are way too expensive.

casio exlim series ultra compact, battery life is amazing.. can last easily minimum 300+ shots. With reviewing.. and playback after playbacks...

My dad just bought 1.. and it's his new toy now.. never leaves home without it.

i second casio range of cameras. i bought a p600 some tiime back and the focusing speed and battery life is really fantastic! one thing though, pictures at ISO100 above not really so good, but guess all slima camera of this range suffer same problem. don rule out casio, go take a look. quite nice cameras too

I know the P600 have good batt life but I don't think so on the ultra scompact ones like Z57?

Anywayz, was down at TK, compared the S1 and IXUS50. Ixus was the choice, now wift is the "light" side vs me in the "dark: side...lol

research them at www.dpreview.com, and go reputable dealers to have a look see and touch to be comfortable with what you want to buy.
