Hi All ,
I need your help on this. I am a 20D user. I need a flash quick as i need to help a friend for his wedding this weeked. I am considering the Canon 550 or 580. I know that the 580 is a newer flash and it has better refresh rate and also with the ability to cater to the sensor size of my 20D and hence helping in saving some batt life and i also heard that the batt life is longer... I want to ask if all this difference is worth the $200 over 550? please let me know for those of you who has tried these 2 flash. also please let me know on: - ETTL2, i heard it is on the camera body, so does it mean that in this there is no diff between 550 and 580? - is the diff in refresh rate and batt life very big between this 2 models? - During wedding, (in church and in restaurants) is there any significant diff in performance between these 2 flashes? thank you all in advance. (also in the next half a year, the flash i am getting will be used for abt 5 diff weddings of friends) |

Looking at the 5 weddings i think you should invest a little bit more for the 580ex.

Difference in price definitely worth it. Yes, E-TTL II is on the camera body, so it doesn't matter whether u use 550 or 580. Refresh rate is VERY much faster in the 580EX, as compared to 550EX. The refresh rate already justify the pricing. Also, the range of the 580 is longer than the 550. Go for the 580EX in short! ![]() |

Wow $620. Is it a grey set? Grey sets are normally without Canon warranty but the shops warranty right? Do you all feel it is worth the price diff in getting grey sets? |

Yes, MSColor is in AMK.
Should not be a grey set, but check with them directly. |

Have fun shooting but be careful using flash at weddings especially when the ceiling is not ideal for bouncing - the makeup can cause blank white reflection.

Thanks for the help, yeah i know that masterdiver has been selling 580ex for in B&S section. But i prefer to have the 1 years warrantys provided by either the shops or canon...(just in case i meet with problems you know). The grey sets selling in TCW have shop warranty right? so does it cover exchanges for faulty sets or is it they try to repair the flash? |

You have high capacity rechargeable batteries?? I reckon for wedding, you need 2 sets of these plus 1-2 sets of alkaline. Recharge is quicker but when it runs out, it does so suddenly.
Better still, get the battery pack, which is not cheap. |
