Is this idea workable or not ?
Metz 45 CL1 AND SB600 mounted on D70 (but using only either one at any time) Why ? SB600 for Balanced fill-flash, TTL everthing. Metz for power and distance shots. Its for situations such as group events and functions If this is possible, some sort of Nikon hotshoe adaptor is needed. Does it exist ? |

Is this the Metz flash to recommend for power shots? A Hammer Head?

The Metz is a basic hammerhead manual-auto type like the 45 CL1.
Does it mean the SU4 can work with the SB600 and metz ? |

i actually saw a wedding photographer go around with this kind of setup once, at my friend's wedding - hammerhead and hotshoe flash both mounted on his Nikon body at the same time. too bad i didn't get a good look at how they were wired up.

I think they don't come cheap for a good metz hammerhead. That's not even counting the battery pack for fast recharge cycles. Any indication on model and price? I've already have an SB800, thought of getting a SB600 as backup. Also get to play a little with the CLS functions.

Its not a problem to mount a hammerhead and hotshoe flash if I'm willing to forgo the TTL functions.
But what I want is full retention of iTTL plus a sync terminal for the Metz - meaning if I off my Metz, the SB600 works as normal with the D70 and if I off my SB600, the adaptor will trigger the Metz (in manual or auto mode). |

Snowspeeder, I got my Metz for $400, same price as the SB600. The 45 CL is the most basic hammerhead but it works very well in auto mode with the D70. The colour rendition using the "flash" WB is very good (to me)

have try that before but to what i think is that the hot shoe must communicate with the sb600 and also come with a syn cord adapter and also . the set up like that very heavy and lope sided.. it will wear the photograper out even fast.. 45 CL1 isnt light to carry around mounted on cam .. and imagione you got to be very mobile.. .. |

I've an oddball Ricoh XR-M that can mount 2 flash guns default.
But then think I the only one use it here @@ OT <> Nikon ![]() |

Well, I don't think the solutions work for me.
I'm looking at my requirement which is an option to quickly switch between my SB600 or Metz 45 CL1. Right now, I've to take out the SB600, connect the AS15 in order to use my Metz and vice-versa. Too slow and cumbersome. After looking around, I'm quite convinced that Nikon doesn't make such a adaptor. The generic adaptors is available but that means I lose the iTTL of the SB600, which is what I want to retain. As to why I want such a combo, if you've used a Metz gun with omnibouce plus bounce card to take large indoor group shots, you not settle for less. Hotshoe mounted flash is great for "close quarters" shots especially if you fix the flash zoom to 28mm and add a omnibounce on it. The consistency of the shots you get in this way is much better than the usual auto-zooming of the flash head. however, these flashes just do not cut it for large group shots with small apertures. If its not just a hobby and limited budget, I would definately go for the 70 CT. |

since there is not adapter from nikon .. the onli solution is that use a differ body .. what i mean is like a EG a F5 has PC or syn terminal and also a hotshoe. SB 800 can go to the hot shoe and the Syn terminal can plug in the Metz.. i am only suggesting . May not work cos i dun gave the F5 .. |

That is what I do with my old film Minolta X-700 - hotshoe for OTF flash and PC sync for a sunpak gun.
For digital, the D2X would probably be the best but its out of my league and wallet depth. OT, I once saw an exhibition photographer with a special homemade bracket - with 2 cameras, 1 huge gun and 1 hotshoe flash mounted. The cameras were 2 F5s arranged one above the other in a slightly diagonal manner. All I can say is he has strong arms. Hence my lightweight D70 and 2 flash is nothing at all for such functions. |

I am using a SB800 with a Metz 60 CT, the SB800 has a PC sync point (and also a 3 point TTL cable point) which I connect to my Metz. My Metz will do a bounce and SB800 as fill in.
If ur SB600 have a PCSync, u can do something similar or if it has a TTL cable connector, u can find a ttl to hotshoe converter which normally used for coolpix range of cameras.

Unfortunately the SB600 does not have such terminals.
But I must say your SB800 + metz combo is interesting. The catch is both flashes are used at the same time. My need is more of either the Metz OR the SB600. Maybe this would be an *excuse* for me to get another body like the D50 or a used D70 to solve my *problem*..... |
