If you know your lighting well, a SB-800 and a SB-600 will do great justice. No need studio equipment as you need to get yourself a light meter as well.

And if you really need a studio equipment to shoot your food shots, at least get Bowens or Elinchroms. Expensive but it's worth it if you do have regular food shots.

If not just get the SB-800 and SB-600 which will set you about $1000. If you are on a budget, then just get a SB-600 ($400-$450) and play around using a reflector. Any piece of white cardboard about an A1 size will help you a lot too.

Good luck!

Look at your long term needs vs. the investment costs.
