Default Gloomy Day and RC cars

Spent about an hour today at a local radio control car track just shaking the cobwebs off my camera - haven't been shooting for a while. The overcast conditions meant that the cars were relatively low-contrast but on the other hand that let me shoot wide open (F/2.8) for shallow DOF without hitting the upper limit of shutter speeds.

More work is needed.

Actually in that last picture, the front of the car is already out of focus. I have two other shots of the same jump but the background isn't as nice. The cars are nicely focused in that one. So a large aperture isn't always good, especially if the AF can't predict far ahead enough.

Nice catch .. seem like the speed of 1/1600 not good enough to freeze the wheel motion ..

When you consider that the motors in them spin at about 40-50,000 rpm, even considering reduction through the gearbox, those wheels are spinning quite quickly.

Definitely not one of my better efforts but these cars are very zippy and quite unpredictable unlike full size cars.
