Regarding the language part, no worries about that. My family and I was in Japan twice and none of us know Japanese. It's not hard to get around japan despite the language barrier, we were able to take public transport and order food easily.

For example when we landed in Osaka and wanted to get to Kyoto, there were different trains going to Kyoto, we were confused at which one to take. After some hand gesturing from a fellow Japanese commuter, we were able to understand what she meant even though she didn't speak a word of English

As for ordering food, we ate at restaurants that have photos in their menu.

Those who can read Chinese characters would have an easier time because there'll be some Chinese words in their sentences.

April is super high season for Japan due cherry blossom, book accommodation early. Check with JTB when is the "golden week" for flowers for better timing for trip. April is also raining season in Japan, be prepared. Have fun.

Agreed. Best to book early for the peak season! The sakura was amazing. Though it was nicer seeing rows of sakura trees near Osaka Castle than in Ueno Park (iirc).

Strongly recommend Toyoko Inn for accommodation too. Great value for money. We still cant quite believe how much we got for how little we paid. They are a budget hotel chain that has numerous hotels all over Japan, most of which are fairly well located.

Grand Pacific Le Daiba Tokyo is a good hotel and is convenient if you're going to disneyland/disneysea, as the hotel provide free shuttle bus services to there. check out with the hotel for the shuttle timing
