Think Gini is bad? Meet intergenerational income elasticity.
It measures the proportion of offspring that remains in a similar income group as their parents.
Together with Gini they form the Great Gatsby Curve.

A large value means if you are born to poor parents you are likely to remain poor throughout your life, and if you're born to rich parents, you've had it made the moment you're born.

The rich will become richer and the poor will become poorer

The middle class or sandwich class will become more frustrated

You will not become rich if you don't marry some one from the rich families

You will always be poor if you are born poor unless you win Toto

Intergeneration elasticity of income, for men at least, is about 0.35.
