Hie Guys,
Currently I am considering the Nikon 8400, Canon S70 Powershot or the 7070WZ to compliment my Nikon D100. I have seen many test image taken with the following cameras, and I still cannot really decide. I am looking for a travel , street photography camera. So far, how is your 7070WZ running ? What are the perks and quirks that you have encountered, not covered in camera reviews ? Some nice samples would be lovely.

Hello Marc,
In case you've missed, I've put up a personal review a while back. It ain't perfect, hope you find it useful. Image samples from the review are available here. Cheers, Last edited by chancy; 12th June 2005 at 09:43 AM. |

C5050Z has software problem? are you sure your source isn't an isolated case? IMO, the C5050Z is one solid stable camera that produces great images.
Anyway, the C7070WZ is basically an upgrade over the C5060WZ, in which the latter's mode dial problem has been solved. On top of that the firmware is also updated. All this results in a camera that have better image quality, higher ISO with less noise and faster startup and operation. If you wanna compare with the Nikon CP8400, I can tell you that the C7070WZ has better image quality and less image noise. That 8MP CCD in the 8400 is known for higher than average noise, even at low ISOs while the 7MP CCD in the C7070WZ has been a revelation, it has shown great performance in other cameras too, such as the Canon G6 and the Sony P150. But you also have to decide between the 2 cameras' lenses, the CP8400 has a wider 24mm which is great for indoor and architectural shots vs the C7070WZ's still very wide 27mm. As for the Canon S70, in spite of its manual functions, I will still consider it an advanced P&S that cannot compare to the CP8400 and C7070WZ as it is not as expandable and the lens is not very good optically in comparison due to the purple fringing you get in high contrast situations. IMO, its only advantage is its smaller size that is all, so go for it if you prefer something smaller. Last edited by tao; 12th June 2005 at 01:25 PM. |

5060 got filter thread for 40.5 filter
does 7070 have this too? You know how many cam makers and also reviewers overlooked this detail on their compact digicams? Canon and Nikon too...alamak. So just to put on a filter, we need a silly tube adapter -- YUKS!!! I cannot figure why they missed this important detail out. Or is it a plan to make money from you, to force you to buy an adapter tube, just to fit on a filter? Once the silly tube is put on, the camera is not compact anymore. It spoils the whole look and feel of the digicam. I don't think I will buy the conversion lenses, so the silly tube adapter is OUT. |

the tube adaptor is typically needed for cameras that have a built-in lens cover (which is convenient to me). those cameras that can take screw in filters usually have lens caps. i am not sure this the case for all cameras but think it is generally so.

just saw one at mustaffa this afternoon.
$999. got free 1 GB card nice size. It has 4 excellent qualities (which for me are important) 1. can use 40.5mm filter (WITHOUT needing tube adapter). 2. can flip the lcd screen backwards to protect it from scratches against your shirt/jacket buttons when carrying it about on a strap. 3. it has optical finder. 4. can use CF card. not sure if the flash hot shoe has TTL contacts. If it has, then very good, since that means close up shots with flash will not be over-exposed. |

$999 is overpriced.
C7070WZ, as ALL Olympus digicams with hotshoe, has FULL TTL capability. I believe Olympus is the only brand that even its lower end models with flash hotshoe has full TTL, just as capable as their DSLRs. |

I'm impressed with Olympus's build, quality and performance...it simply rocks. SLR quality body for a P&S, for others it's juz a flimsy plasticky body |
