for the WMD in iraq issue..i believe that there really was something in iraq..just that they were on a smaller scale (or may not exactly be WMD itself in the first place - maybe something partially developed or what) and were quickly removed long before US sent in the troops

Even in the first Korean war, if not for certain moves by the UN forces, China would have stayed out.
Well, you'll be surprise. I can't remember exact date but about 2-4weeks ago, US intelligence reveals that China has move 100,000 soldiers to the North-East China for backing North Korea incase war outbreaks. The reliability of the US intelligence after Iraq War is questionable but the intention of it is clear.

On the involvement of the 'Forgotten War' by China is not because of the tagline UN forces, that is just a name. American's troop madeup most of it(UN forces). China have been monitoring closely on the American troops movement in Northern Korean where they have been successful in pushing the communist back. Back in US, General Douglas MacArthur have warned his commanders not to cross the line to Yalujiang river but his was either ignored or by mistake pursue the communist across the Yalujiang river. This given excuse for China's red army involvement to push the UN/American troops back to the south.

It won't be just a plain o'war between the North and South Korean if it comes true. The war(if not stop in time) will trigger a chain reaction involving all the nationals in East Asia. North Korea will attack Japan if possible, just like Iraq will attack Israel if attacked, even if it is not cause by Israel. American will use Japan and Taiwan as military base for launching, to which China will be force to attack Taiwan first to prevent American touching Taiwan(excuse for them to declare independent). China will use Taiwan after invading it to launch a counterattack against Japan from Okinawa(US base).

Other than Japan, US troops and navy stationed at Philippines and Guam will backup the one in Japan should it fall to China. Its likely that the Americans will win the battle in the intial part due to the superior navy(aircraft-carriers) and air control but China's constant carpet bombing Japan on Tokyo, other major cities and US military bases will cost them dearly.

To read into the context of the news article, that North Korea has nuclear bombs suggests that it is a free-fall weapon and not one that can be delivered via means of ICBM, cruise missiles or rockets (yet). Of course, technology advances, and they'll find a means to do it given enough time.

The US is in a tight spot as well. Officially they've gone to war in Iraq to find the weapons of mass destruction, and of course finding nothing, and so there is the suspicion they were making a grab for Middle Eastern oil. And now that North Korea has openly declared possession of WMDs, the onus is on the US to show a similar consistency in dealing with North Korea as they have with Iraq, and show that they are after WMDs and not oil (since there's little or none in North Korea).
They already have the ability. The North Korean have launch their rocket and dropped in the North Japan Sea causing alarms in Japan one or two years ago. All they have to do is to attach a nuclear war head to the rocket and "BINGO!!!"

Nah, makes for a nice fantasy though, like those RISK board games I used to play. Of what benefit is it to China to support a failing regime, which will be non-existent in 20 years at most, against 4 of its top 7 trading partners (Japan, US, S.Korea and Taiwan)? Why commit hundreds of thousands, or even millions of troops, risk millions of civilian deaths in the coastal cities which are well within reach of missiles from Japan and Taiwan, and almost certain post-war economic ruin and upheaval, and possible overthrow of the government? To support Mr Kim and his cronies? The Chinese leaders are belligerent but they are not stupid!

I suspect they wouldn't shed a tear if Mr Kim were deposed, and if the Americans and Japanese were keen enough to do the dirty work for them, so much the better!

I have a much easier time answering your question this time.
Just think, is World War I fantasy? Is World War II fantasy? Exactly like the RISK game I played, except they don't wait for your turn.

What benefited Germany to have involved in two wars? Why did Itay supported Germany? Why wage war at all?

Default War Scenario : The military and stragetics moves by opponents

Full scale war, Taiwan will be the first target of China to prevent US and Japanese forces to take advantage of. Taiwan will be a piece of cake for China's military might. US might win on one front but if there is multiple zone attack/defence for US and Japan, from North Korea to Taiwan and Japan(I promise you that there will be thousands of missiles from China and North Korea dropping on to Japan every single day because of US base usage on Japan as a retaliation). We are not counting Russia's involvement in it if she want to........
    Hommie, good ideas.

Just for a war scenario forcast.
I am not sure if Mr Kim is another Saddam Hussien or not, since his move is quite unusual or stupid (again, I am not sure ).

    Scenario 1
Should North Korea announce possession of Tactical Nuclear Weapon, US and South Korea will definetely invade North Korea without waiting for Pyongyang to get their bargaining chip ready.
US and South Korea have been confrontation with the North for half the century, and they are unlikely wanna to confront an nuclear enemy, especially one who is crazy, unlike China or Soviet Union counterpart who have known the serious consequence of it.
US is not going to play another game of 1963 Cuba Missile Crisis, and of course, neither South Korea, Japan and China would want to play.

When WAR starts, US F-117 Stealth Fighters, B2 Stealth Bombers, Carrier Battle Group, Tomahawks missiles and South Korea Air Force will clear away North Korean AA Battery, airforce, Nuclear sites, and other important facilities in the first few days of intensive air strike.
This will follow by immediate Blitzkrieg by the US and South Korean Army,
Apaches will slaughter the T-54/55 units, North Korean units will be smash and disorganise by airstrikes, awaiting to be surrender or kenna turkey shoots by incoming US and South Korean ground forces.
North Korean navy will be sink before they got the chances to leave the port.
Mr Kim will be capture by US force, or he commit suicide before US reach his bunker or kenna kill by his own son, Junior Fat Kim.
In stragetic point of view, North Korean must be crush asap to prevent long term war or China's involvement.

On political front, US will negotiate with China to stay off, using Taiwan as an bargaining chip.

There is nothing Japan can do, but to be on Decon 1 alert during this crisis.

    Scenario 2.1

China involement in 2nd Korean War would be 50/50.

The year is 2005, not 1951 under Mao Tse Tong, China ecomony is booming, new generation of Chinese are educated and the Chinese are not interested to be drag into war because another North Korea communist idealogy or unification.
Chinese may see North Korea as a good old neighbour, but may also see the North as a burden, troublemaker, no economic value, ask for food only, and draging them into diagloue with US, South Korea and Japan.
Who knows, Beijing leaders may secretly celebrate if US would help them to clean away the North and unifed under One Korea (better economy partner).

    Scenario 2.2

On the other, if China back Korea, it will be TOTAL WAR for sure.

On political front, South Korea may retalite by declaring recogniation of Taiwan as the Republic of China.
U.S will defintely bring Taiwan into the game and Japan will find itself drag into it. Chen Shui Bian may take this oppournity (or excuse) to declare independent for Taiwan.

On military, PLA and US/South Korea is going to be lock into an unpredicatable battle front into North Korea, a repeat of 1951 Korean War.
China will have mobilise all her manpower, drafting people from countryside in order to sustain the heavy losses and stop the advancing US/South Korea from the Korean front.
China Air Force have only limited new generation of aircrafts to combat American airpower, they must try their best to cover the airspaces of their logistic lines behind the Korean Front, not to combat the US fighters.
Chinese Navy, from it present strength as now, not future, do not have the capacity to challenge US might, nor do she have the ampihious capability to bring 10 divisions to Taiwan. Should it be total WAR, it will either be sink or confine at the port or sink at the Straits of China.
Taiwan will declare independent as she have no worries of blockage or any ampihious attempt by China.

On Financial, the total WAR will destroy China's economy and will affect the rest of Asia. There will be economy melt down in Asia, countries like Philippines and Indonesia may face economy collapse, and the world may possible face a 2nd Great Depression.

    I agree with you.
I too have little faith in Chinese Navy, they like to boost a lot in front of Media during the annual war game exercise of amphibious landing capability when the navy are not able to support an full invasion of Taiwan.

Sometimes makes me wonder... who ever controls the media controls our opinion and thus will control the world.

In the end, humans will destroy humanity.

Well, there is an asteriod out there that is targeted and destined to hit us, maybe then humans will learn to co-operate with each other, by that time it is too late... there is too much hate spread all over.

    Hi Hommie,

I beg to differ from some of your views about Macarthur. It was MacArthur who insisted on bring war to China's front. He even ignored High Command on many occasions not to bomb near Yalu River (near Chinese/Nkorean border). It was him who insisted on atomic bombing China and wanted to start WWIII. He also wanted to put back Nationalist who retreated to Taiwan to start all out frontal war with China too but he was finally sacked by the US president.
