Default W1 User: How to format my memory stick?

I am a new W1 user although I bought it for many months back. Is there a function to delete all the pics in the memory stick? Currently, I have been deleting the pics one by one, repeating the process for hundred over times (for more than hundred pictures). Is there a short-cut? Thanks for reading.

Lightbulb Don't you just love the manual?

You haven't read the manual, have you? Instead of spending time manually deleting pictures sequentially, you could have better used the time flipping through the manual and learn that the format function is there by pressing the Menu,, then....

Alternatively, you may wish to delete your pictures on your W1 from your PC/laptop. (Ctrl-A to select all, then Del to delete)

Good luck!

PS: Manuals can be downloaded here: http://www.sony.jp/products/di-world...wn/index3.html

I read the part on formating the MS and was not comfortable doing it. I have the perception that why do I need to always format my Harddisk, when I relate this Memory stick with my PC Hard-disk. Doesn't a deletion should be sufficient. Nevertheless, I appreciate your sharing.

Thank you.

Quick formatting a hard disk does the same level of "harm" as a full filesystem delete; just the file allocation table is deleted, the actual blocks/inodes/clusters are left intact. Hence there is minimal damage (wear and tear) going on during a quick format.

Now, your memory stick is a solid-state device with no moving mechanical parts so formatting would not wear out your memory stick, unlike the low-level format perform on hard disks.

Hi, I accidentally discovered how to delete all the pictures at one go. (but I'm using W5, I dunno if it's the same with W1 but I supposed so)

In Playback mode, press the zoom out button (W) then you'll see 9pictures on the screen, right? press Delete button here then the camera will ask you whether delete all pictures, or selected pictures which you can select a series of pictures instead of deleting them one by one.

I am very happy to "discover" this. cos previously I didn't know how to delete all pictures too, was using computer to do it all this while.

Hi W1 user too. Guess you guys did not read the manual carefully. You can delete the photos 1 by 1, many at a go or just format the card to flush everything out.

In (playback mode) press (zoom) buttom (w) once or twice depending on the view u want. Now press delete buttom. u can choose (select) to highlight those you want to delete or (all in this folder) to delete everything. Just press the circle buttom to select all those you dun want and dump them all at once.

*Note this can be done in normal view without zooming in but in thumbnails mode it is easier to delete many at once.

Its good to format your memory stick once in a while as it removes unneccesary junks left after deleting. Imagine your computer: does uninstalling programs = nothing left? ans is no! so entrys cannot be removed without formating or through registery. However pls do not format card with computer as the camera may not be able to recognize the card.

Hope this helps.
