Last week went to IMM Sony Galery tried out the H1, very solid! 12X zoom, and well design of the camera body.... but too bad the memory module only accept Memory stick instead of CF.....

Saw it on sale at pc show, yes solid & good to hold. Too bad very few people discussing it here or even @ dpreview. Sony's breaking into ultra-zoom is good for the competition but its use of the MS also turns me off.

I'm also very tempted by this camera but it doesn't use carl zeiss lens and has no external hotshoe (same prob as canon S1 IS).

Oh yah...and S2 IS too, but the H1 is a very gd cam, it's main attraction is its 12X optical zoom and steadyshot function which is also featured in their handycams

I think that the H1 is the best 5MP 12X image stabilised digicam in the market now in terms of image quality and ergonomics. Also, the 2.5" LCD screen is very very nice indeed.

Hello,
I noticed that H1 doesn't have "Night Shot" as compared to Sony's previous models. Further to that, it only takes Jpeg format which some users might prefer to have RAW or uncompress TIFF as well. Well the obvious lacking to me is the missing "Hotshoe" which I normally will look for when considering a new camera. Honestly, the 12X optical is definitely a plus but I think it is not Carl Zeiss though! Anyway, what I mentioned might not be important and I personally felt that Sony's F828 and V3 are probably the better models. |

Hi,
So have you got the H1? CP and MS colour quoted around $800, incl. gst. Very tempted to get it. Dun mind not having hot shoe and having to use MStick pro, the plus point is the 12x optical zoom, the steady shot feature and of course able to use "AA" size batteries. |

There is a night shot function. The good thing about the shooting options are that they are on a dial, so choosing is very easy. I am playing with the manual function at the moment, testing out different exposure time and f-number... Not bother by using MS or MS pro... upgraded from another sony cybershot so have tonnes lying around. 12x zoom VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! But really need a tripod to do it justice. At 12x, even with steady shot on, picture will not be sharp if the lighting is not bright. Anyone can recommend good but cheap alternatives lens for H1? heard that can use those compatiable with 828 and 700 series, but like to know more before splashing more money. Price for H1 is now at $849 with 256mb MS Pro... but can get very good deal if you know where to find. I got mine with 512 mb at 750+ as I was recommended to shop by friend.
