This is one of the biggest misconception many people have, thinking that bigger sensor equals better IQ.

A caveat for you: the olympus EM1 has better IQ than the Nikon D3...

From my limited experience handling the Epl-2 (which is already a gen 2 oly) I don't think it fares worse either. The NEX-7 is definitely faster but that's not blazing either.

One thing I will say though, the EOS-M seriously can't ai-servo to save its life.

Anyway it's a first gen camera, here is hoping Canon improves it as each year goes along. The EOSM makes sense for me as a backup to my DSLR. Easy for my kid to use too though he prefers the X100.

Add: TS - the EOSM isnt really pocketable even with the 22mm pancake. Unless you don't mind odd bulges in your pants.
It interesting that you like to compare af speed to cams with the slowest and most fruatrating af.

X-pro 1 and x100 both have af that really sucks eggs. The industry has moved on with on sensor pdaf. No point advising TS to get something so crippled when there are so many much better technology around.

Actually I didn't recommend the EOS M. Just advising TS it's not as crap as most people think. Canon was mad to charge what it did when it was launched. And I only got it when there was that Amazon firesale of USD 299. At that price, it's a good deal. Besides, I mentioned the Ai-servo sucks balls right?

Oh yeah, I compared it to X100, X-Pro, NEX-7 and EM-5 because I've used them. I didn't mention any cameras I haven't used. The X100 and Xpro still frustrates me from time to time even after their firmware updates: AF speed is up, but still false positives. Not sure if X100S with it's PDAF actually fixed the missed focuses though.

Since you mentioned I didn't advise anything to TS then here it is: TS - do hold and play around with each of them at a shop. They are different enough ergonomically that you'll probably appreciate one over another. Also, don't discount the look of the pictures you can get out of the camera even though most of them are buying sensors from Sony nowadays. Each company has some magic voodoo they do that give a 'look' to their pictures. This is even if you shot in RAW. For me, I like Canon and Fuji colors. I find Sony's reds are very vibrant and saturated. Oly files have a reddish/brownish tint to them that I don't like. YMMV of course.

I'm LX7 user. Can say it's my day-to-day use camera, as I bringing it with me all the time. Great low light, very close macro, AF is decently fast, etc. I'm quite pleased with the image taken. Purchased for USD 299.00 tht time frm Amazon, it's a great value.
