I am looking for an associate photographer or a second PA to groom as a photographer.
No need for extensive experience but a stable and reliable personality is what I seek. For a start, you'll need to be able to handle carrying of Bowens lights & light stands. A responsible attitude that includes punctuality and effectiveness+efficiency is necessary. Also important that you learn fast. A major plus is if you are conversant in PhotoShop CS, as my workflow is 100% digital. Please direct all applications, via email, to barnie@photonx.net Kindly indicate - your REAL name - a contact number - what you are doing (working/student/etc) right now - an online folio, while good, is not necessary - what camera(s) are you using Serious applications, only, please. Incomplete emails will be ignored. We can set up for a meet-up sometime this week or next to chat and find ourselves a fit. Thank you for viewing. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |

Have received some responses. Do keep them coming. You may wish to note that I'm not too fussed about you having to own a high-end dSLR. Not having one does not preclude you from applying, as I'm also keen to groom.

Thank you for all the reponses so far. Keep them coming! In the meantime, may I offer some further pointers to those who wish to write in -
1. Please refrain from writing your emails like you do SMSes, especially those abbreviated words like "cud", "dun", "oso"...etc. Also leave spacings and use caps at the start of your sentences. 2. Curt emails with barely any intro and one-liners like "...hope u consider me. Name, HP#, 1Ds MkII..." make abrupt readings. HR would trash them, as I would. 3. I'm just interested to know that you know how to use a camera, and that you are familiar with a digital workflow. Show me that you are a photographer and NOT an equipment-chaser/collector or a cameraman. 4. I'm not restricting to photogs. Photog Assistants that I can quickly groom to shoot I'm also keen to have onboard. 5. Refer to #4 above - I am more interested in those who can commit. Part-timers/students will automatically be disadvantaged. 6. No restriction whether you are male or female. Maturity, attitude and commitment is what is desired. So keep those emails coming. Cheers! PS - kindly keep OT posts to yourself. Thank you. |

Thank you, Kijer, for the kind words. I did not expect that you'd be the one to meet me either. Hope that you can shoot more, and find your place in the sun. Glad that my critique did not make you too hurt.
- - - - To the rest - I will respond as I go down the list. Please understand that I've received many respondents and I've only enough free time a day to meet one or two at most. I am seeking a person with a good character fit... amongst other attitude traits, patience is a must, as is maturity and the ability to communicate politely and well. Are these all not the natural requisites for most jobs? Let me add that colour of skin is not a factor. Though a polite response when returning a call is. |

Thank you for the many responses and the many online portfolios/credentials. Some of you have impressive training and credentials and others have very useful secondary skills (relevant to my other needs). Most of those who emailed me before this post will get a reply by this weekend. I'll be meeting up with the remaining shortlisted individuals the coming Monday. So do keep an eye on your email inbox.
Thanks again for the wonderful response. |

In response to several emailed queries -
Female applicants are most welcome. As long as you can cope with carry a pair of Bowens 500Ws, then you'll stand an EQUAL chance. In fact my best PAs thus far have both been female - dedicated, matured and great attitude+personality. So send your applications in. To play on a news article over the weekend - "Talent and Gear means little if attitude is Rotten". |

Thanks for point it out, AeroNautisis. All applications via email only, please. Thank you.
Meanwhile, thank you also for the numerious email applications that have been sent in. I'll be tying up the last few meet-ups this week before my busy season hits. Again, some feedback to those who've not been successful this time again. I've met some gracious individuals, I've also met some really really bad ones. I really hope some of you can use this feedback to improve yourselves. > Do please take care returning calls - I understand that some of you may have to work late and hence cannot pick up my calls right away. But I frown on those who are rude when returning calls - I don't want moneylenders and ah bengs on my team. > I am seeking someone who has the right attitude and who can demonstrate a personality fit with my team. As such, your email is the first level of interaction with me. Curt and abrupt, and SMS-styled emails are very poor first impressions, they just burn your chances of even a second glance. > Punctuality is a plus, naturally. > Good presentation will catch my (and all interviewers') attention. Show me that you are truly interested, and that you can contribute to me business and help me tremendously. Will be closing this thread by tomorrow evening, and all meet-ups by Saturday. |

Thank you for all the responses. In the short space of 10 days and such overwhelming response...
whew!Yes, I've found a very very good fit with one wonderful individual, and will be giving the chance to a couple of others to try out with me. Those who didn't make the meet, don't be disheartened. Give yourself a good hard self-critique to see what can be improved, from presentation (emailed) to "portfolio" to telephone courtesy. I wish you all the best in your future efforts. To those I've met and who'd taken a beating, my apologies if you found my bluntness harsh or my style caustic. But I hope you took my words in serious consideration, and I sincerely want to see you make it in time. I'll be closing this thread/ad. That said, anyone who's still keen to find a possible chance to work with me, feel free to hop on and join one of my AG outings (usually run over the weekends). That'll be a good chance to meet up and to chat with me after the outings. Cheers. ![]() |
