My humble shots at MOG.

It's quite difficult to get a nice and clean background.

My favourite : Crimson Sunbird

evenstar, you got the technicals for the exposure correct, all you need now is a good pose.

the other set of pics, the exposure is all gone wrong.

since sunbirds is a common subject, just search for it in previous threads to see how others like Jeff have achieved the correct exposure.

Hi USM,

How far are you away from the bird? Are you using the 400mm? Looks like a clear direct shot... What time of the day is best for shooting birds?

Thanks.

I am using both the 300mm f4L IS and 400mm f4 IS DO lenses. But I find that the 300mm f4L is more useful in shooting the Sunbirds as the MFD is 1.5m vs 3.5m of the 400mm DO lens.

The Sunbirds were very close to us, not more than 2m away.

Morning is definitely the best time to shoot Sunbirds as they are very active in feeding.

It seem that I have made a right choice...
