Default Ads slowing down forums?

Hi,

I have no problems with the main page that doesn't load from ad.sg.doubleclick.net but with the other pages, I find that often, the requests sent gets put on hold for very long time.

Often I see "Connecting to ad.sg.doubleclick.net" or "Waiting for ad.sg.doubleclick.net" and nothing else moves, after several force refreshes using the "Reload" button then the page will successfully load.

Can anybody look into it?

However i feel that the ad service should better than this ya...
Sorry i don't know the arrangement between the ad service and CS, and i hope i'm just nagging...

P.S.
If i vist CS all the time, won't the ad be cached in my sys? why does it take so long ne?

Thanks for the feedback. I *personally* have not felt any slowdown (I do see the "waiting for ..." status but I have not had the need to click refresh or anything like that - typically the forums pages loads up first, then the ad shows up a little while later.

I have tried on IE, Firefox and Opera, and have not had any slowdown issues.

In any case, we will bring this up with the ad provider and see if anything can be done on their side.

I've tried it in IE 6 and FireFox 1.04 and is facing these issues, I don't mind the ads, but the waiting time is a bit horrendous, there are times it even timed out and I get an empty document message from the browsers.

It can get pretty annoying when you're typing one long page of essay and crap and you find it unable to go out

If its any help, try tweaking the browser settings in Firefox - Download the Tweak Network Settings extension and set to the following :-

Max Connections : 40
Max Connections per Server : 16
Max Persistent Connections per Server : 16
Max persistent connections per proxy : 16
Enable Pipelining
Enable Proxy Pipelining
Pipelining maxrequests : 8

If you don't mind, you won't be complaining right? It's like "I don't mind but blah blah blah"... hehehe..

Anyway, I also don't mind but ...

Darren: Maybe I'll try it out on my unix box later and see.

eric69: I said I didn't mind the ads, but I didn't say I didn't mind the response time. Please get your facts right.

I tried running Nutscrape and Safari. Nutscrape is slow as hell...like what ESPN experienced. Safari...no issues except on the VERY rare occasion.

I support ads in forums like Clubsnap.

Apart from the obvious financial help to keep the forum running, advertisers, aside from marketing their products, also help play a role in keeping consumers educated either via advertising or through the many support activities organized for members.

For one, I always assumed that Epson was THE ONE brand to go to for photo printers. With HP's ads plugging their printers in an educated manner, it actually opened my eyes to alternatives.

The trick is for advertisers to inject real education and/or information within the ads to avoid these ads/banners becoming 'junk mail'. Otherwise no matter the size or types of gimmicky graphics used, once a particular advertiser's ads are perceived to be mere advertising trumpets with little substance, few will bother to click thru.

IMHO, so far so good!

Tried Mozilla on Redhat 9.2 also a bit laggi, so I can conclude it's not the system nor browser?

nw75: I know what you mean, I also experience the same.

ed9119: Please, I didn't say I don't support ads. I only ask that the problem be verified as I see "Waiting/Connecting to ad.sg.doubleclick.net" and the page doesn't load. I don't think the ad causes this. Don't make it sound like I'm asking for the ads to be removed. What CS does to generate revenue or income for maintenance I have no interests to care about.

Nope, it's not the mainpage, it's when entering into pages with the ads it slows down. Sometimes press "Reply" can also just wait there.

i agree when pressing on reply,it will now take longer to return to that page where we were. The page would freeze there.
