Went for a shoot at Mandai Zoo today. The weather was not really that good, managed to finish before it started to rain. I just started shooting animals a few weeks ago, your comments will be greatly appreciated. TIA.

#4 Hmmm, must finish my food fast, someone is coming...

You may want to move your copyright note to the corner. It's too distracting. Good try, keep shooing.

Wow, lighting was really bad wasn't it?

Makes the pics look like they were taken indoors

No, not really. Maybe the animals sensed the coming down-pour, most of them hid somewhere under some shelter.

the photos are under exposed. did you use flash? fill in flash might be better.
why your shots only using ISO100? 20D is known to be very clean with high ISO, why not pump up to ISO400 or higher?

for the composition, they're basically fine. for #5 and #6, i think you need to show only one, which is #6. try to get the attention of the subjects, and try to get eye contact.

The giraffes were out in full force. So does the lion and lioness. The lion's enclosure overlooks the giraffee across the road. They were growling in full force, saying "so near and yet so far"

Yeah, weather and lighting was bad yesterday.

Actually you can use tripod and slow shutter speed for meerkat shots. They tend to keep very still while standing.

See my sample , taken at 1/15sec , tripod and release cable.

Give the giraffes a couple more weeks to get used to people. The keepers are now conditioning them to feed right next to the raised hut, so once the giraffes overcome their shyness, hand-feeding sessions will be introduced.

You'll then be able to get a really close-up shot of their lovely big eyes and long lashes.

yes, i did use flash, and i in fact pump up the exposure in PS too. they look pretty ok on my LCD monitor. probably it is the problem of having an uncalibrated monitor, and also my personal preference of a more saturated/darker image.

will post another one with the exposure adjusted in the evening when i get home.

the flash i used is a Canon 380EX, just wondering whether this flash works well with digital cams? i used it on 300D before also, always seem not enough output power. is it me or is it the flash?
