I have an Olympus C 770 and it comes with a hotshoe. I don't seem to be able to activate an external flash no matter at what setting. Reading the manual doesn't help either as it is not stated. Can anyone please help
Thanks |

Sorry in getting back so late. I have been checking faithfully back for answers after posting but got none over 24 hours so I abandoned. I read through the manual but it doesn't say any thing about having to activate the external flash mode. If there is one and you know where it is, appreciate if you can point me in that direction ![]() I am not using an Olympus flash unit but a Nikon. Not sure if the hotshoe housing contacts are different. If anyone else can help, please do. I'm desperate ![]() |

A non-dedicated flash, will only work with the camera in certain exposure mode. It will not work with the "P" and "Auto" mode, at least in my case. What exposure mode did you try? Besides "P" and "Auto" mode, there are "A/S/M" among others, where A for Aperture-priority, S for Shutter-priority, M for Manual. My C-750 work with A and M but not S mode with the non-dedicated flash. Another point to note is that there is a button near to the flash, which allow us to select the various flash mode, including full flash, off flash, auto.... Did you accidentally turn off the flash? Mr. Pixel, I doubt that the Nikon flash you are using is electronically compatible with the 770UZ. Stop using it before the voltage difference fry your flash hotshoe.
I will suggest you get either one of those cheap non-TTL flash like the Suntek unit mentioned or any of the Olympus FL flash series, which works beautifully with their TTL sync. |

Thanks folks... Chii from this forum pointed me in the right direction
The problem lies in the only setting available to use an external : the M settig in A/S/M All is good and well and I don't have any problem with the flash gun although I mifgt get a dedicated Olympus unit. |
