    Here are few quick pointers.

    1) Check the microfiber cloth is lint free.

    2) Put a few drops of lens cleaning fluid on the microfiber cloth and give the contacts a quick rub.

    3) Usually the contacts will have some lubricant and will be dirty after many months & years of usage.

    4) Then check that the contact sharp edges have not catch any lint from the cleaning cloth.

    5) Check that there no lint or dust on the rear element.

    6) While you are at it, you may as well clean up the lens mount electrical contacts on the body too. They get grubby after a very long use.

The standard recommendation for contacts is to use an eraser (hard type). These contacts usually are gold coated. If there is any contact problem, then it is something that's too tough for a soft MF cloth. Just watch out for the small rubber bits rubbed off.
