hello,
i realised that my image is sharper when i zoom in, focus, zoom out and take the shot, compare to just taking the shot at wide angle. is this normal? focusing accuracy depends on lens or body? |

Sounds like you have the same problem as I have with my Pentax film cam. There is an article about it but I don't know how it applies to Olympus though..da af article

I have the same issue with E-300 and kit lens.
Especially night shots, I'll need to zoom in, focus, zoom out to take a sharp image. I usually set my settings to S-AF. Anyone else experiencing this? |

is this issue the same as backfocusing?
my question is, can this lack of sharp focusing be seen on the viewfinder? otherwise, using the said technique described above will be guesswork. |

i also usually set to s-af mode. i think i read somewhere that at wide angle, the focus tolerance is lower than at teleport. is it true?
anyway, i dun think is backfocusing. if i zoom in, focus, then zoom out, the focusing is accurate. back focusing is when you focus on something but the camera focus on something behind it. |

Dear I_n_h, If you have used manual focus before, you would have to master this traditional technique. E-300 and E-1 use passive AF system. This type of system depends a lot on the contrast of the focusing point. Now, I think you got the answer already. If you let the AF sensor to get closer to the focusing point with zoom-in, it will definitely give you a better result. It is especially true in case of less contrasty or dim object. Of course, there is still a certain limit for the validity of the above explanation. If the object is contrasty enough and the lighting is normal, you normally don't need to zoom-in first. |

can meh? this is the biggest thing i can't get used to. last time with my nikon, i zoom in, then focus, then zoom out. but with the Oly kit lens, it doesn't work. i heard thats becos its a different optic design. has been practising MF with AF combo, the results r getting better. ![]() |
