I already own a Sony W1, but now after reading so much about the Lumix, stuck between the FZ-5 and the FZ-20.

Still thinking...... Any body can help wake me up?

    Cheers.....

I think my only gripes about the FZ10 is that it doesn't have a manual zoom, its minimum aperture is only F8 and the highest quality only yields 1.6mb (no raw mode). Then again I am comparing this to an SLR so not fair hehehe

As for manual focus, sometimes you need to lock the focus when taking shots in the dark and when the autofocus cannot "see"

An comparing it to FZ5, I think the FZ5 does not have a fixed F2.8 lens right?

    WAKE UP!!!!

I personally use the fz20. Never tried a fz5 before but I'm very sure that I will not be able to tahan the size of that thing. Too cute lah... Haha...

But from what I'm reading, our fz5 bros seem to think that function wise it's ups against the fz20.

    I still won't exchange my 20 for a 5...

    I traded off my 20 (FZ20) for a 70 and a 10 (no guessing what they are).

The 10 will come in handy when I do macro and close-ups. As for the 70, it is there for me when I need to up the tempo at events and fashion shoots.

Sigh ....I am torn between two lovers ......

Oh yah, i forgot to add.

I almost can't live without external flash indoors.

    External flash = Hotshoe required

But then again, I do wish that the higher ISOs are more useable.

Seems like I've started a battle of the best of FZs... Now I really need to decide which one I would buy. My current choice is FZ20 unless there's something higher than that. My choice is based on:

    1. The lens power (12x optical)
    2. Hot shoe - I do lots of flash and at times studio lights, the shot shoe is required for my IR trigger.
    3. OIS - This I see is one of the most important feature of FZ especially if you do lots of close ups and tele
    4. Shutter remote. I do night shoots and shutter remote is important. I believe we are talking about cable release right? or is it based on ir remote?
    5. Manual focus. This is crucial when you take night sky photos

    Questions for all again.

    1. Is it true that the resolution is very grainy when used above 100 ISO?
    2. Why do you need a phayee if the standard unit comes with its petal hood already? I am assuming that the Phayee is a hood too.

    Lastly.

I do wish to get the FZ20 and hopefully by tomorrow and try it out while on my trip to KL this Thursday. But do intend to get a 2nd hand due to budget concern. Know of anyone letter go a good set with the accessories for a great buy? he he he... pulling my luck here....

Thanks all... thanks for the assistance...

Hmmm... Check out the buy and sell... I think there're still a couple selling off theirs.

Personally ISO 200 is still acceptable to me. Taken quite a few with that level. Although to make it better there's always Noise reduction programs floating around.

The Phayee adapter is bought by most of us to step down the diameter from 72 to 62mm. Personally for me it was for the Nikon 6T. And since you're not a beginner to photography, you'd know that the filters and lenses are cheaper too. (As compared to buying 72mm)

Anyway, only the 20 gives you the option of hotshoe & remote shutter.

    Cheers!

    MS $911.50
    CP no reply

    FZ-5

Dun starve! Just continue eating the "bread & water" diet...

If really no money why don't you consider getting a second hand one? Most of them in Buy&Sell letting theirs go at a very reasonable price. Most are bundled with the equipment you'd most likely get too... (lens cap, phayee, uv lens, poloriser, blah blah blah..)

    The choice is YOURS!

For MS Color, think you better send equote, will get $900 instead.
CP will take a few day to reply and will always the highest on IMO.

Think most of us using the PA for our FZ10/20.
You will know the purposes & advantages of the 62mm PA over the stock
    72mm adpater/hood at PLUG.

    1. Yes, above 100 ISO it would become pretty grainy, partly due to the small CCD used. Once u underexposed the photo and rev up the brightness and contrast, the grain would show... but then again... if u print to 4R i doubt the picture would be grainy... correct me if wrong, i never print before.
Ricky, always complain when i send him test shoots at 100 ISO, he everytime say how come so grainy.

    2. Phayee got 2 things... tube which commonly known as the adaptor step down to 62mm... and phayee oso have the lotus hood.

62mm filters are cheaper and easier to find.

Phayee Tube cost around 25 and Lotus hood about 18-20... i am not sure about the pricing u muz contact JimDavis <--- unoffical main distributor of phayee stuff...

Phayee adapter are made of aluminium, while the default panasonic ones are made of plastic. The Phayee gives the camera a better feel and weight, and protects better against knock (I guess never test b4....don't intend to either ).
