Default What's the difference between these 3 lens?

Okay, I want to ask about these 3 lens.

    Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS.
    Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II.
    Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM.

Sorry about the newbie-ness here. I've read reviews and all, but I don't really get what they mean in the end. Can anyone explain to me these 3 lens properly? Or even better, show me some comparison photos (:

    Cheers, thanks a bunch.

    First, it's "lenses".

The first is the original model, the II is newer, and the STM uses the newer, quieter motor so that it doesn't get recorded in videos.

the STM is also the lens motor that works with the on-sensor PDAF

Iirc, the other key difference between the traditional motor and the stm is that, for the stm version, you can only turn and focus only when the camera is powered up. (focus by wire)

Thanks guys. I was thinking whether was it lens or lenses. Haha. So the main difference between I and II is that II is newer and the difference between II and STM is the fact that it's quieter in video mode and only able to turn when the camera's powered up?

Why would the zoom mechanism be affected? It's only the focus motor that requires power.
