Might just be lens coating. Post an image for us to know what "spy movies" you have been watching.

Or could be the film-style split focus screen

Ahhhhhhh will try to find the image...

But it's usually either the BMW logo or half semicircle. Slightly translucent, think it helps in the focusing?

Focusing screen. Common in film days, many higher-end dslr cameras will let you swap sreeens to that too.

You are referring to split image focusing screen?

The split circle is not in your lens. It is on the focusing screen in your camera (above the mirror in your DSLR). Most modern day cameras do not come with it because they usually comes with autofocus.

In Singapore courts these images are admissible. But the presenting party has to show / confirm that the images were not altered. Most image manipulations can be detected with reasonable efforts.

Which court? In all that I know, they are admissable so long as it can be proven they were not altered

Not in the USA. CSI tv shows are based in several cities in USA. The forensic departments there still use film.
