Default Legal aspect of forums like for example this CS, especially this Koptiam here

I am asking this question if someone can sue somebody based on done defamatory remarks just or comments or just some insinuations or just merely innuendoes written in a forum.

now, the thing is that the plaintiff may nor may not be directly identified in the first place.

The writer usually is under is nick name or pseudonym and has got to be traced some how.

Has anyone heard of any law suit over or rather based on what has been written in this kind of media. Does the law cover the digital media.

You didn't notice the nice letters that some MP and minister's lawyers sent out in the last years over a few FB remarks?
But to be honest, such remarks and also the response - both don't speak well for those initiating it.. It really helps to ignore the background noise of social media to a certain extend.

did you read the T&C of this forum before you consider taking any actions?

if yes, than you need to consult your lawyer first and follow his/her advice.

With the technology even the special counter terrorist plainclothes can be traced.

No one can hide if you have the time, energy and money to trace him in cyberspace..

But you can't catch me. I'm hiding in Australia and Australia is a big country.

needless to say that here in SG we got to be specially careful when in it comes to such thing as race, language or religion and also, certain political figures here.
and not forgetting porn as well.
any way, cyberspace is now becoming bigger and bigger so much so that it is becoming so very difficult to control.

    This is an illusion.
Unless you take care about privacy it is very easy to track you nearly everywhere.

First thing you do is to hide your identity by giving yourself a female avartar preferably with something like this:

Before u start any law suit, u need to know what constitutes a defamatory. Common people can't tell the differences between a defamatory and what is not.

For example, if I call you a moron or stupid or incapable or racist slang, it's not a defamatory. It's my personal opinion.

But if I call you corrupted or cheat, then it's damaging your reputation. This is defamatory.

And above all, the standard answer applies: "It depends." While the coded law is made generic, every case has its details and circumstances that need to be evaluated.
The excessive use of these laws, especially by prominent members of the political leaders of this country has created a noticeable fear factor around these laws.

well, well, unless the thing is that it is so darn serious that it merits such a thing as to sue someone.

in forum posting, to sue someone, it takes hell of a lot of effort as things are not so well defined as with the traditional case of verbal slander, libel or written defamation. in forum, things are very very fluid. in the end, it might be an utter waste of everybody's time. it might be a case of some BIG FAT Ego issue.
