Hi,
These are shots taken using the Tamron 18-200mm with 300D. I think it is reasonable, within expectation. Don't think it's fair to compare it against lenses like Canon 24-70mm and 70-200mm. But I've no Sigma 18-200mm to compare it against. Will bring it along to Xiamen to give it a go anyway.

madison,Thanks for the sample pix , the images looked very sharp, as the F is 3.5-6.3, during the low light condition do u face any problem when shooting using 200mm? coz when zooming in 200mm the f will be 200mm. ( if i am not wrong)

Maximum aperture at 200m should be f/6.3. For the stray cat, I shot at aperture 1/8 and 1/200s, using flash, because the cat was moving around a lot. Basically moving around me lookng for food.

For three shots, first one taken at 50mm, 38mm, and third at 200mm.

This one also at 200m.

But yes, when I checked the EXIF, I found that the max aperture is stated as f/5.6. Must pay a bit of attention next time... These shots are not cropped, but downsized and compressed (by 40%).

i've read that you should stay away from lens that do everything, i.e wide range, because unfortunately they do everything but not well

how much is the lens you are talking about?

The lens report f/5.6 back to the camera. Ths is because if the lens report the true aperture of f/6.3, the non-pro bodies will refuse to AF.

Mpenza, thx for the info. Anyway, the camera will only read max aperture of f/6.3 at 200mm. Just checked..

trlnlty, if you are asking about the price. It's $660 at MS Colour. I'm bringing this for travel. It's just too much load and hassle to bring along too many lenses (and heavy ones as well). Changing lens in crowded or dusty places is no fun. Of course, there is price to pay for a jack of all trades. That's why I'll capture them all in RAW and also be prepared to crop the pictures if necessary. But actually, if I'm developing them in 4R, most pictures would look sharp.
