    You're using XP right? Use My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables.

    Nope. I did not manage to install XP. Still same problem even disabling quite a number of devices. Same problem for Win2k. So in the end, just installed Win98. Better than nothing.

    Hope you're aware that the file system of Win98 (FAT/FAT32) isn't really reliable at all (read: prone to problems). Anyway, make backing up your data and disk scanning your hard disk a habit, especially with Win98.

    If you can, try Windows 2000 if you really can't get WinXP to work.

    Windows 2000 is the best.. most compatible and most stable.

    Unfortunately the installation failed. I came close to completing it once but it hangs in the end. I got plenty of assignments to rush so no more time to re-install. Also spent the last couple of days trying to install the OS.

    Actually when I typed PATH at command prompt, the following appears:

    PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND

    I believe I am supposed to add the directory that i want to the back of this line but I can;t find it in the autoexec.bat file leh.

    think its default.
    so just add ur directory, e.g. c:\abc to a path command like this
    set path=%path%;c:\abc
