Thanks for the prompt anwser.
Looks like another money spinner. How often does this happen? Good thing, there is still some warranty left. Normally, how much time do they need to have this service?

Thanks for the tip.
Can you imagine all the photos have to be corrected. Luckily they are personal ones. The speck can only be seen on my comp and not on the camera monitor screen. So, how do you gurus avoid this? Sorry I'm a newbie on this, just recently hop over from N90X film.

it looks like dust. i get a monster like that every few months.
i'd like to suggest that you blow it away with a blower instead of sending it in for cleaning. my friend just brought his D100 in for cleaning of 1-2 spots, and got it back with patches instead. he's resent it in for cleaning again. |

your CCD dust problem is teruk. mine got dust also... but can't be seen on normal shots. the dust can be seen only when shoot at the biggest f-stop and on white surface object.

At the meantime, you could use PS to cover the patches like I did. I had something like this for weeks, tried using the blower countless times but no use on the stubborn stain. And just when I wanted to bring it down to the service centre, the patch just disappeared, completely.

What you mean they cannot do anything because it is a manufacture problem?? If yours still under warrenty, they should take care of it right?? I mean the buyer is not the cause of it, so why the buyer gotta take the rap??? Anyone????? ![]() |

Hi Nice Shot,
This piece of dust looks big enough to be blown away and I don't think that there is a need to send it to service centre. The question is - are you able to or know how to expose the CCD and blow the dirt off with a blower confidently? Be very careful not to touch the CCD with the tip of the blower!!! How did it happen??? Dust gets to the interior of the camera when you change lenses. Some of these particles eventually settle on the CCD and get stuck there. They may be electrostatically charged and hence hard to remove. Hi Macboy, Dust particulars that are stuck to the CCD will not show up in the viewfinder. Since they block the CCD sensor, they show up as black/grey specks in your pictures. Those black dots in the viewfinder are dust on the focusing screen which will not be captured in your pictures. i sent mine to nikon service centre and they only took less than half an hour to do the job... you get to examine it too to see if everything is ok if not you can request them to clean it again on the spot before paying.. That's right! the dust are more obvious on lighter back ground, like white, so try to find a white background, take a couple of shots... zoomed in to the max and scroll acround the pic on the LCD to see if there's any dust... that's what i did.... Be very careful if you attempt to blow or clean it yourself.. scratching the CCD or focusing screen will not be worth it.. Another thing is, if you need to change lens in the open try and find a place that's not too windy and dusty,do a quick change, keep the camera opening faced down was the advice that i got from my fellow friends... hope this helps.. happy shooting |

he sent it to nikon for ccd cleaning. there was initially only 1-2 specks.
unfortunately he only checked when he got home. (no lens) found the patches. he speculated that it is the cleaning solution left to dry... but nikon then said that it is fungus, and that they will check, and may need to charge if need to replace the ccd... |
