Talking Is it worth buy 2nd hand D70??

Hi all just wondering if it is worth to get D70 (with/without kit) at 2nd hand?
Because I did some research on the new set is around 1680 sgd (with GST)
and 2nd hand 1s is ard 1300 - 1500 SGD (for body n kit, with/without freebies)

New body alone not so sure ..around 1200 SGD. 2nd hand 1s around 1000 - 1200 (depends on the amount of warranty left).

So if a person buy a D70 body (2nd hand), then will need to get a lens (18-70mm DX lens should be the best partner for it) will be ard 300-400 (2nd hand) and 400-450 (new).

So doing the maths here,
1) Totally new set + kit is around 1680 as mentioned above.
2) New body + 2nd hand kit lens is around 1500-1600
3) 2nd hand body + new kit lens is around 1400-1650
4) 2nd hand body + kit lens is around 1300-1600

Well after looking on the comparison, my personal thoughs is getting totally new 1 is much better as compare to getting 2nd hands ones

considering that,
1) The cam may need to visit nikon service centre. if get old ones lack of warranty may not be a good idea (actually a bad idea).
2) You don't know exactly is there any faults to the DSLR anot.
3) You the cost between old ones n new ones only differ by few hundred dollars.
4) Personally feel that electronics staff have shorter lifespan i.e. the bady should worth much less after used by someone else.

So just want to hear from you guys/gals on your opinions to get D70 or any other DSLRs 2nd hand or new.

This is just a general discussion. so pls do not take it too personally.
Thks, I duwan to cause any problem between any one.

Ask yrself this qns first? (see how is it)

1) Some ppl will like to save $$, so go for 2nd good, while taking risk of warrenty.
2) Some ppl only like 1st hand goods, so they always buy off the shelf.

Which 1 are u?

hehe actually im not either 1 cos i may buy new 1 or old 1 depending on the situation/condition of cam.
If there's always a fixed type then the the world will be a much better place.

I sold my D70 kit + hoya hmc filter when it was only one month old for like $1400 but I included a lot of other stuff in a package like SB600, 50mm lens at good price.

The D70 WAS $1680 with 1GB and bag so works around $1530 for the D70.

If you buy second hand D70 at $1400 make SURE it is less than one month old and lightly used like mine

really no point if you buy a used D70 that is like 6 months old with thousands of shots for like $1400.

Anyway your calculation is wrong. NOBODY is stupid enough to buy a 2nd hand D70 kit for $1600.

Well, depends on who is the seller and buyer..
it is fair deal in BnS. (u have the right to put the price to sell, ppl also can buy at yr askin price)
no one pointing gun at you and asking u to buy this cam at "high" price, base on yr judgement.

to think hor.....did some seller over priced their D70 that only have 6mths warranty period left?
Now D70s is out, is that the (real) cause for ppl selling D70?

I was in the same dillema a few days back. I thought buying a new D70 may not be advisible, because the production has been stopped. If after buying, any defect is found, replacement would be difficult. Besides not many places you can find a new D70 in stock. My suggestion: Buy a D70s.

personally, I think the launch price of D70s is so unexpectedly low, and this has caused a disadvantage to all the D70 owners who intends to sell their kit.

Personally, I feel that the price of second hand D70 is high compared to a new D70s. $1380 for New D70s or $$1000-1100 for 2nd hand D70.....which one will you go for??? And as there are more people selling their used D70, this may cause the price to depress further, and people are more motivated to buy the newer D70s for marginally more. I predict the market forces will drive down the price of used D70 further

yeah thats what i tot so but seems like many people are bidding D70 in BnS sub-forum. Dunno y.
Plus Digital cameras use CCD/CMOS to create the picture, so there's sure lifespan to it. Thus should depreciate much faster/more than normal SLR camera. Thats 1 of the bad side in Digital camera. Maybe its time for those people going for 2nd hand cameras (DSLR/PnS) sit down n think the worthness of getting 2nd hand body.

wait for coming pc show and get a brand new D70s, likely to have some promo by Nikon. IMO, no point buying D70, used or new unless if you really can save a lot.

as someone mentioned, intro price of the D70s is really amazingly low and I find that many are selling their used D70 at unrealistic prices, whether or not peope buy.

to each his own, for some people, saving even $100 is important, so by all means get a used unit.

but considering how much one is going to spend on accessories and lenses, IMO, just buy brand new, IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT... you will love the camera more and have more peace of mind.

being a warrantied owner myself i sure hope that happens!

however happening to be also a seller for someone's spare set on BnS, i know the usual doubts instilled by a lack of warranty, particularly at this point in time, the transition into an update model.

putting a fair word for all 2nd hand owners here, regardless their ware or expectation (ahem), lets just say this my 'personal' view is, if i myself is currently in seek of a budget entry in DSLR, i can still accept the so-said 2nd hand unit if its rather minty (outlook and technically) and service-free...AND comes at a good (relative to a new one la) DIS-premium (another nice word for discount, the other is reduction!).

If i at that point can afford to factor in this time a Premium for new, usually up ard 30%+-?, by all means why not? grab one!

as a seller (like myself), its YOUR responsbility to declare what you are offering. end day still, remember buyers, theres no real obligation if the decision is not to go ahead, new or otherwise, so caveat emptor!
