Default D2Hs & WT-2 on Wireless Ad-Hoc and Access Point

Hi guys,

For anyone here who are planning to get the WT-2 for their D2x or D2Hs, I've just finished setting up my WiFi connections on my laptop for both the peer-to-peer Ad-Hoc and the infrastructure Access Point configurations on this baby...

... and these are typical transfer times for an uncompressed raw NEF file (approx. 6.7Mb).

Access point connection (11g protocol) - approximately 6secs
- Camera approx. 5m from access point
- 128-bit WEP encryption activated

Peer-to-peer Ad-Hoc connection (11b protocol) - approximately 18secs
- Camera right next to laptop
- No encryption activated

To quote, here are the typical ranges on the ASUS WL-330g Pocket Wireless Access Point unit I'm getting for my field work:

Indoor 40m (130ft)
semi-open 100m (330ft)
outdoor (LOS, Line-Of-Sight) 457m (1500ft)

I'm not really bothering with the Peer-to-Peer Ad-Hoc mode and plan to use that only as a backup system if the AP fails.

BTW, the FTP server I'm using is an open source program called FileZilla.

technically speaking, u can increase the upload speed by a bit if u use a 64-bit or lower encryption. using 11g is better than 11b, of course, without speaking.

mervlam... I agree that the speed and transmission range can be increased by lowering the encryption level and that is something I may do depending on my location. Thanks for that reminder.

BTW now that I've got all my components together, I thought I'd post a quick snap shot of the entire wireless system I'm using. As for the wireless AP, I'm actually using the D-Link DWL-G730AP instead of the ASUS unit due to lack of stock issues.
