Default Should I get D70 or D70s?

hi all,

I am interested to upgrade to a Nikon D70 or D70s.
Have not make my mind, the specs of the newer D70s does not really impress me.

I have some queries I hope some Nikon users or any CSer can advise.

I was quoted today -

Nikon D70 - $1585 (b4 GST)
Standard pack, free 1G CF card
Option to get the Nikon 70-300mm lens @ $88, forgoing the free 1G CF.

Nikon D70s - $1580 (b4 GST)
Standard pack

Is the Nikon 70-300mm lens okay? So far I have been shooting nature, landscape,
some bugs n birds.. ie shoot mostly for fun.

I read that the 70-300mm is dark at the max zoom, during to the "larger" aperture. Should I get the CF card and save for a better zoom?
What other alternative lens can I get, but not at a huge sum - reasonable of $300 or so. (1st or 2nd hand, I don't mind)

I can't afford $1k/$2k duper lens as I got my family to feed n marine fish tank to maintain.

Thanks..!!

If you can't decide which one to get, very simple, just get whichever's cheaper

For the lens puzzle, I suggest getting the CF card. More expensive and easier to sell if you don't really need it.

This lens if you can get it at $88, ok lah.

If you already have a CF then go for the lens. If you already have a zoom lens then go for the CF.

if you have the creativity, you can always expose your shots a little when using the 70-300mm lens (if you fear the dark ).

2nd hand goods..?? such a good deal. haha..

Thanks for the suggestion.
Not much price difference between the two.
I can use s/w to enhance the photo if it gets too dark on the subject.

take it raw, easier to convert I suppose.
eg. below.

or overexpose a few stops when at 300mm..
experiment abit..

Road tax and car insurance coming, must ponder abit before buying..

Both are good and almost identical in specs.

i got the feeling that if the D70s gets new firmware upgrade, the D70 would get one too. just look at the upcoming firmware upgrade for the D70... it's gonna have the same menu layout and improve focusing area just like the D70s. but of course, if the firmware is to fix the cable release feature of the D70s, than it's not applicable to the D70 lor.

why not go for D2X?

seriously, you could consider a used D70 that has been repaired by Nikon (if any is available) to save some money.

I dunnoe, but frankly the D2X has given me a lot to think about, FF and MP. I admit I would love a 12.4MP, but seeing and using the images from D2X is like wow... processing time is hours!!!

Right now I wish FF is 8mp. Maybe processing won't take that long... at least. Else DX would really be a better choice.
