Help to do macro and manual focus

need help to use the manual focus on the coolpix 5400.
i press the AF button and rotate the dial, only see the macron and landscape icon but can't focus. Any question regarding macro mode: once extend the lens fully, the macro icon turn from green to black, deactivated. How to shoot macro with extended lens

if cant focus, means that u are too close to the object, so u will either have to move back a little from the subject, and dun zoom all the way in.

be rather close the the object and slowly move in until u reach ur maximum minimum focusing distance.
