Default CPL Filter direct mount or apapter?

Currently using X20 and i think it require 40.5mm filter.

I looking for hoya brand, if not mistaken, 40.5mm only buy Hoya standard CPL. ( direct scew infront of lens)
If i using adapter, it can mount 52mm and which i can buy Hoya HD CPL. ( require adapter)

I not sure the adapter will effect the CPL as the adapter added? there will be distance between lens and filter compare direct srew onto lens.

    any advise , thanks

Ring adapter should not affect the picture, since in this instance you are stepping up from your native ?40.5mm to 52mm.

no effect if stepping up, but you might want to check your filter size for x20 again? i think it's 40mm instead, rather odd size.
