Normal mode - to reduce vibration due to camera shake.
Active mode - to reduce vibration when shooting from a moving vehicle.

... as stated in the instruction manual. Have never shot from a vehicle yet, so my lens is always on Normal mode.

sorry... my 24-120 VR only have VR on/off mode leh...
VR on - I can shoot at 1/15s, if I'm not wrong, for PANning mode, the lens will detect and lock on.

Care to share how to go about normal/active mode?

Thanks

On lenses that have that function (e.g. AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8), there is a switch that allows you to switch between NORMAL and ACTIVE mode.

Panning is automatically detected when the lens is in the Normal mode. Yes, VR does work and would surely surprise you, not unless your camera shake is way to much.

Don't think Active is useful for normal shooting unless you are moving on some vibrating source like on a moving car or powerboat (or perhaps an earthquake?). Hmmmm... curious to try out now

On normal mode, small movement is considered shake and is compensated. Slightly bigger movement is considered recomposition and will be ignored.

On Active mode, the threshold for hand shake is even greater. And so those of you with smoker's hand should use this.

Thanx Knight Ong and Snake, thats exactly how I see it. I'm afraid that I am not able to (or rather not want to) disclose such details... I hope you guys are joking about the photocopying of receipts and PM-ing of names. I'm sure you are, pls don't press the Lords guys for such similar offer. It may even be a mistake made by their staff.

There are many factors affecting price. Cost of labour, raw materials, exchange rate, warehousing, logistics, super special promotion, or simply lack of market info at you end etc etc ... But it was $2.8k with freebies AT THAT POINT IN TIME, don't know about the price now. Its for you to consider, not to pursue . In anycase, my friend was in luck, that's all. I bought my at $2.8k but grey one . Cheers and happy hunting.

Cheap stuff lah and nothing big deal, but still its free ... Sorry zmwang, if I tell you (or everyone) now, you guys may just press them for it ... so do accept my apologies for not sharing in this case

Okay guys, don't think I want to continue with this. We have gone way off the main topic. Thanx for all the interest.
